MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT The School Board of the Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is seeking an exemplary leader to serve as their next Superintendent of Schools. The District’s 35,000 students attend 33 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 8 high schools and several specialty schools and programs. Students come from families and homes speaking 96 different languages or dialects and 24% of the students are English language learners. The diversity of the student body is reflected in enrollment data with approximately 37% of the students being African American, 33% White American and 19% Hispanic American. Students and families enjoy a plethora of programs and services from the School District as exemplified by course offerings that include 13 different languages. This is an opportunity to lead a school district in a progressive City and State. MPS offers a robust menu of innovative and traditional programs to meet the needs of all learners regardless of their academic level of success or backgrounds. The School Board of the Minneapolis Public Schools and the nine member board is committed to moving the school district forward and meeting the needs of all learners. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: * Successfully worked in a leadership role (ideally as a Regional or current Superintendent) at a school district of similar demographic composition, complexity and sophistication with engaged parents and community members. Possess business acumen and is knowledgeable of sound financial management. * A willingness to become familiar with and understand the unique history, culture, expectations and needs of the District, the City of Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota and become a participating member of the community taking advantage of the many benefits of being an active Minneapolis community member. * Commitment to the Minneapolis Public Schools by choosing to provide leadership to the school district for many years. * Cultural and linguistic responsiveness. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate others to achieve at the highest levels. * High ethical and moral standards for personal and professional performance and the performance of others. Achieve equitable student outcomes. * Be visible in the schools and community, interacting comfortably with students, staff, parents and community members. Build relationships. * Highly refined skills and ability to build healthy and productive working relationships with community organizations, business leaders, elected and appointed government officials, parents, staff, students and the school board. * Communicate as an effective spokesperson for the Minneapolis Public Schools and be able to clearly articulate the District’s vision, successes and challenges. * Embrace the current strategic plan and pursue with a consistent and coherent laser-like focus on the goals and initiatives being implemented. * Empower and then hold accountable individuals within a high performing administrative team. * Flourish in a politically active community. * Lead with a depth of pedagogical knowledge. Experienced in the many aspects of providing an effective educational experience for all learners. Understands and utilizes the latest research, educational trends, and innovation in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment. * Listen and discern information from a multitude of sources. * Nurture and maintain an organization in an environment of mutual trust. EDUCATION: A Master’s degree in school leadership, education or a related field is required. A Doctoral or advanced degree in education or a related field is preferred. LICENSURE: The Superintendent shall furnish throughout the life of the contract with Minneapolis Public Schools, a valid and appropriate license to act as Superintendent in the State of Minnesota, as provided by applicable state laws, rules and regulations. MS/HS Special Education Teacher

To provide services to middle/high school students with special needs in a resource room setting for the 2016-2017 school year. This position requires a teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students on IEPs with a variety of disabilities while working collaboratively with the general education staff and parents. Special Education teachers are responsible for student testing, evaluations, and the writing individual education plans while complying with special education rules and due process requirements. This position is located in Glenville-Emmons School District.
