Full Time Chemistry Teacher

Primary Function (Purpose of Position):  A DeLaSalle High School Chemistry Teacher has a strong background in science education, a deep understanding of high school curriculum standards, and the ability to engage and inspire high school students in the exciting world of chemistry. The chemistry teacher will be responsible for creating a positive and challenging learning environment, fostering critical thinking skills, and cultivating a love for chemistry among high school students.

Representative Responsibilities:

1.      Curriculum Development:

  • Design and implement effective, engaging, and standards-based science curriculum for high school students.
  • Develop lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.

2.      Classroom Instruction:

  • Deliver dynamic and interactive lessons in chemistry.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and inquiry.
  • Tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with varying academic abilities, learning styles, and cultural backgrounds.

3.      Lab Supervision:

  • Oversee and facilitate hands-on laboratory activities, ensuring a sage and organized learning environment.
  • Demonstrate and promote proper laboratory techniques and safety procedures.

4.      Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Create and administer assessments to measure student understanding and progress.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, parents, and administrators.
  • Use data-driven insights to adjust teaching methods as needed.

5.      Technology Integration:

  • Incorporate technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
  • Utilize multimedia tools, educational software, and other technology platforms to enrich science instruction.

6.      Classroom Management:

  • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a conductive atmosphere for learning.

7.      Professional Development:

  • Stay current with advancements in science education, instructional methods, and technology.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and contribute to the school’s academic community.

8.      Parent and Community Engagement:

  • Foster an open communication with parents and guardians through regular updates on student progress, parent-teacher conferences, and other communication channels.
  • Participate in school events and engage with the local community to promote chemistry education.

The Dean of Students role positively impacts the middle school student experience, fostering an engaging, caring and collaborative school community.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Principal and Assistant Principal.

Essential Functions:

Communicate effectively and proactively with staff, students and families.
Supervise and instruct student groups and build relationships with students.
Analyze and monitor student data; collaborate with students, staff and families to support student success.
Monitor student attendance and promote student engagement; Coordinate support, as needed, with families or outside agencies.
Participate in team meetings to support academic and social emotional needs.
Lead registration processes and schedule coursework.
Welcome new students and families.
Lead PBIS and social emotional learning actions to promote positive school culture.
Provide positive student behavior support.
Facilitate restorative practices and utilize non-exclusionary discipline practices.
Proactively support behavioral incidents and document behavioral data.
Plan and provide Tier 2 MTSS Intervention to support social emotional needs and executive function.
Attend IEP meetings, as needed, and support 504 and EL needs.
Support/Implement standardized testing processes and procedures.
Attend meetings and professional development sessions.
Help plan and facilitate middle school celebrations and school dances.
Support other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Education, or related field and considerable experience in classroom instruction or guidance counseling, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
