Job Summary: To inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning.  Design and deliver data-driven school counseling services aligned with the district mission and ASCA standards to support scholar success; implement the building College and Career, academics, social-emotional and counseling plan according to district program objectives and priorities; teach and coordinate the delivery of the curriculum; coordinate registration and orientation for scholars when needed; advocate for the individual scholar; participate in planning and teaching of career education; counsel scholars individually and in small groups about personal concerns; maintain contact and communication with guardians/caregivers of scholars; refer scholars and guardians/caregivers to appropriate specialists, special programs and/or community agencies; consult with teachers, staff, and guardians/caregivers regarding needs of individual scholars; participate in, coordinate, and/or conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school; make appropriate and equitable use of instructional resources and technologies; implement the goals and objectives of the district and the school and/or program for which employed; provide in-person, synchronous, and asynchronous learning and services when applicable.  Willing to participate in district/building leadership activities.  Ability to be flexible with work hours to meet the needs of guardians/caregivers, the district, building, and department at the discretion of the supervisor.

ESP – Special Education/Instructional/Clerical

Job Summary: Assist the classroom teacher with instructional tasks and/or intervention, academic support and working directly and indirectly with students.  These tasks will constitute the major portion of the Educational Support Professional time. Assist the special education teacher in the operation and function of the classroom, and to work with individual or small groups of students as directed by and under the supervision of the special education teacher.  Depending on program needs, management reserves the right to make changes in your assignment. Includes lunch and recess supervision.

Responsibilities and Tasks Include:

 

Assist in general classroom operational procedures such as setting up and operating audiovisual equipment, setting up physical education equipment, preparing and setting up art supplies.
Work directly with students individually or in small groups on academic and motor or social skills, e.g., math, science, English, color recognition, decision making, self-esteem building, etc.
Assist students and teachers in large group activities/projects such as art, physical education, dramatics.
Seek out special instructional materials to assist with students having particular learning problems, e.g., separate math skill worksheet, not a part of teacher’s curriculum.
Type worksheets, tests, or various instructional material; duplicate and assemble.
Correct tests via computer.  Record results in grade books.
Assist in the implementation of the students’ special education instructional plan(s) including physical and behavioral management.  Specific duties are assigned by the supervising teacher based on students’ special needs.
Assist in the implementation and follow through of the students’ individual plans in all settings in which the program is delivered and as assigned by the supervising teacher.
Collect observational data about assigned student(s) in various school settings and report to supervising teacher.
Assist in the preparation, collection and maintenance of educational materials and equipment.
Assist staffings, conferences and any other special meetings as requested by supervising teacher.
Complete educational forms, reports and other student related data relevant to the individual student(s) in the special education program as directed by the special education teacher.
Any other duties deemed necessary by the team and approved by the Special Education Coordinator/Special Education Supervisor.
Includes lunch and recess supervision.
Participation in district training program prior to and during employment.
Perform other duties as assigned by principal or designee.
Minimum qualifications include:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

Persons employed shall have the skills needed to perform tasks and work with children, staff and parents.
Must have physical capability to lift and attend to physical needs of students as required.
Computer and word processing experience helpful.
Salary:  View Classification I (1) and II (2) salary grid on page 4, section 2, and classification, page 5, section 2 on Educational Support Professional contract

Special Education EBD Teacher

Position Summary:
This Special Education Teacher position is part of Owatonna Middle School’s Discovery program. Discovery classrooms provide trauma-responsive specialized programming and instruction for students who require support with dysregulation and displays that impact learning. Discovery teachers work closely within a team structure which includes paraprofessionals, behavior interventionists, school social workers, related service providers, and administration. Students also access general education courses as appropriate to their educational plan; the Discovery teacher plans jointly with the general education teacher to provide the accommodations and modifications necessary in order for the student to access and make progress within the general education curriculum.

All members of the Discovery program are highly trained and supported; They utilize Life Space Crisis Intervention strategies and track individual student data through the Performance Tracking System. Weekly team meetings and joint planning provide clarity and consistency for both staff and students.

Qualifications:
Valid MN Special Education Teaching – EBD or ABS licensure required.  Experience with Setting III specialized programming for students struggling with behavior and dysregulation preferred.  Consistent and reliable attendance is required.

Grounds/Ice Arena Person

Responsibilities and tasks include: 

Ensures district grounds are properly maintained by:

  • Maintaining fields and landscapes including, but not limited to, watering, mowing, string trimming, pruning shrubs, trees, weeding, removing paper and debris from school yard and along fence lines;
  • Preparing and caring for athletic play surfaces including natural and synthetic fields;
  • Laying out/striping athletic play fields for activities.
  • Cleaning up for future mowing fence lines and rough areas; apply soil sterilant under wire;
  • Plowing of snow and de-icing on pavement and other driving/walking surfaces;
  • Replacing thermostatic and flow traps in heating system if required; replace steam traps and door closures;
  • Installing and repairing concrete and blacktop;
  • Installing and repairing chain link fencing; irrigation systems and athletic equipment;
  • Performing routine maintenance and repair of equipment;
  • Operating ice maintenance equipment as required to maintain acceptable playing surfaces.
  • Cleaning up after events following established district cleaning standards.

 Minimum qualifications include: 

  •  Valid Driver’s License
  • Must obtain a MN Specialist boiler license within one year of hire date.
  • Must obtain a commercial driver’s license within one year of hire date.
  • Must obtain EPA certified pesticide applicator license within one year of hire date.

 Work schedule: Work days and hours vary from October 1st through March 31st at ice arena.
7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday through Friday from April 1st through September 30th on district grounds crew.

 Job type or FTE: Full-time, year round, Classification V
