Adult Education Manufacturing Bridge Instructor – Evenings

Job Duties:
1. Teach classes as assigned by the Adult Education Coordinator
2. Develop engaging curricula in accordance with program standards and instructional practices relevant to adult learners
3. Document and evaluate student progress using formative and summative assessment such as TABE or CASAS
4. Adapt teaching style to engage and retain students
5. Facilitate and integrate technology into instruction
6. Monitor attendance and student progress using the MN ABE online database

Expectations:
1. Supports the mission, vision and philosophy of Faribault Public Schools and Minnesota Adult Basic Education programming and comply willingly with all organizational policies and procedures
2. Supports and facilitates positive interactions with others by exhibiting individual maturity, respect for others, and a team-centered approach
3. Maintains student confidentiality by complying with the Family Education Rights and Privacy (FERPA) Act

5. Exhibits effective verbal and written communication/presentation skills
6. Maintains good working relationships with administrative, clerical and program staff within the Community Education/Adult Basic Education program, Faribault Public Schools and with staff of partnering agencies

Location:  Faribault Education Center & South Central College

Hours: Part-Time, Hours Vary (10 – 15 hours per week)
Part 1: Manufacturing Bridge – Monday, June 27th – Friday August 19th | Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:30-8 pm
*(no class July 4th)
Part 2: Integrated with South Central College – Monday August 22nd – Friday December 16th | Schedule dependent on student availability

High School Guidance Counselor

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to provide students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with information on career and or educational opportunities; administer and interpret career assessment tools; and assist students in developing educational and occupational goals and plans.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

Assists students in evaluating students’ aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in developing education and occupation plans consistent with such evaluation.
Assists students in making course and subject selections, as well as with evaluating career interests and choices.
Assists in the scheduling of classes.
Obtains and disseminates information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations.
Assists students with admissions, scholarship and identifying employment opportunities.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student’s abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services.
Researches educational and career opportunities, and coordinates with teachers, college and university personnel, resource specialists, and business and community organizations for the purpose of providing information, and making recommendations.
Assists with the registration and orientation students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities.
Assists with the school district’s dropout prevention efforts.
Serves as ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
Plans and coordinates field trips to institutions of higher learning, businesses and other organizations related to guidance responsibilities.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Assists in the orientation of new teachers, and provides in-service training in guidance.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility requirements.
Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs and other educational opportunities.
Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities and employment.
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Experience working with diverse and EL students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License: Minnesota State Certification as a Guidance Counselor.
Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education Bachelors and Masters degree required from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Experience
Successful prior counselor experience with diverse population.

Job Description:   Full-Time (1.0 FTE) School Counselor at the Faribault Middle School.  This position commences with the 2022-23 school year on August 22, 2022.

Faribault Public Schools is a rural Pre-K through Adult School District located about 50 miles south of the Twin-Cities. The school district currently serves approximately 3,700 students in Faribault and our surrounding areas within our community of 23,000 citizens within the city limits. District sites include one early childhood center, three elementary schools K-5, one middle school 6-8, one high school 9-12, one area learning center 9-12 and one education center for adult education.
