The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our Brooklyn Center Secondary Teaching in the role of Science Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, The Science Teacher will develop students’ skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics; develops students’ skills and abilities in scientific methods and problem-solving. Please note this is a temporary position (January 31 – June 9, 2022)

Homebound Teacher

The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to be Homebound Teachers. The purpose of the position is to be part of the continued growth and development of the Brooklyn Center Community School district towards our Mission and Vision. This position provides educational instruction and support to students with homebound or home-based programming. The number of hours a day and week are variable and can be completed at any time the teacher and family determine to be appropriate (ex: Saturdays, evenings). Oftentimes, licensed teachers already committed to the school day will become Homebound Teachers as an additional assignment to their current contract.

STEP/ LEAP Activities Instructors are responsible for leading groups of up to 20 youth in high-quality enrichment activities in such areas as youth leadership, art, music, entrepreneurship, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports classroom teachers in delivering instructional program to English Language Learners; communicates with student in student’s primary language as required.
  • Assists and works independently in maintaining order among students in the classroom and on school grounds.
  • Assists and engages in preparing teaching materials; assists with cumulative and other record keeping.
  • Assists with student records as directed by a teacher and/or administrator.
  • Attends to English Language Learners’ physical and emotional needs in the classroom; under the direction of professional staff, provides guidance and referral to appropriate agencies.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of books and teaching aids.
  • Confers as needed with teachers concerning programs and material to meet the needs of English Language Learners; may participate in student-related conferences, school-parent meetings, telephone communications, and home visits.
  • Supervises groups of students in the library/media center or other special activities.
  • Assists with various classroom projects.
  • May travel from site to site and/or room to room to provide services for English Learners.
  • Under appropriate supervision, conducts the activities of the classroom.
  • Attends to other English Learners’ school needs such as: arranging transportation, making conference appointments, assisting with completing forms and applications.
  • Translates written materials relating to the educational program of English Learners being assisted.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and, Abilities Preferred:

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively, both orally and in written form
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, officials, associates, parents, and the general public.

Qualifications: Associates Degree or 60 credits graduate level; Experience working as an educational or teacher’s assistant, paraprofessional, or equivalent combination of education and experience

A Cooks Helper Substitute performs semiskilled work preparing, cooking, and serving breakfast and lunch foods, cleaning kitchen and utensils, maintaining records, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Head Cook/ and District Food Service Manager.(This position is an on-call position that may require travel to multiple sites)

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares, cooks and serves items in accordance with the menu; sets up a la carte items and serves as a cashier; counts and records monies received.
  • Operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, deep fryers, ovens, and other foodservice and mechanical equipment.
  • Serves students in a manner that promotes a safe, supportive, culturally responsive, equitable, and welcoming learning environment.
  • Assists with preparing, cooking, and serving breakfast and lunch foods.
  • Preps lunch items for the head cook, preps and stocks salad, deli, beverage machines, and condiment cart; prepares and serves sandwiches made to order.
  • Cleans kitchen and equipment, washes and puts away dishes and utensils; washes, folds, and stores laundry; performs general cleaning chores.
  • Replenishes food, beverage, and utensil supplies during meal service periods and assures portions served are consistent.
  • Creates a welcoming environment for students and positively interacts with all students and staff.
  • Stocks and rotates food supplies; maintains sanitary standards.
  • Assists with maintaining production records; counts and reports on leftovers; records food items and supplies used and meals served.
  • Reports accidents and/or issues occurring in the kitchen or cafeteria.
  • Other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION: $16.54-18.90/hour, DOE
*Additional Certifications obtained receive additional payment per hour:
Level 1 – $0.90/per hour
Level 2 – $1.30/per hour
Level 3 – $1.60/per hour
Level 4 – $1.90/per hour

Job Requirements:
Valid driver’s license, Previous experience in school foodservice or catering preferred Required Supervisory Experience: ServSafe Food Safety Certification may be obtained within one (1) year of hire. School Nutrition Association Certification may be obtained within one (1) year of hire.

Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, walking, squatting/kneeling, climbing, balancing, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, hearing, and seeing.

Working Condition:
Spends most time indoors with possible exposure to extreme heat when working with cooking equipment. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels.

  • Attends professional development workshops and apply learned information
  • Provide individual support to students with identified SEL concerns and needs

  • Establish effective communication with staff, students, and families
  • Assist staff with student, classwide and schoolwide SEL growth opportunities and concerns
  • Participate in meetings with students and families as needed. Implement, monitor, and track interventions

Duty Days: 178 days/ 8 hours per day (7:00 am – 3:30 pm)
Qualifications: 60 college-level credits or Associates Degree required; Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred.
