LEADERSHIP PROFILE: The Wadena-Deer Creek School Board is seeking a superintendent with strong leadership abilities who:

• Leads with honesty, integrity, and ethical judgment in relationships with the board, staff, students, families, and community
• Brings demonstrated experience in school finance, including budgeting, resource allocation, and responsible fiscal oversight
• Possesses practical knowledge of labor relations, including negotiations and the collective bargaining process
• Effectively delegates responsibility while maintaining clear expectations and accountability for results
• Understands special education needs and has experience ensuring appropriate services, compliance, and student support
• Actively promotes meaningful partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to strengthen schools
• Recognizes the impact of poverty on student learning and achievement and responds through informed, equitable leadership

SALARY/CONTRACT: A competitive compensation and benefits package, with a starting salary range of $135,000 – $175,000, will be negotiated commensurate with experience and qualifications. Contract length is negotiable as provided in Minnesota statute. Additional benefits may include health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, and 403(b), among others.

This individual will serve as a collaborative partner to the school board, manage district resources responsibly, and engage the broader community in support of student success.

The successful candidate will:

  • Communicate clearly, confidently, and adaptively, listening with purpose and providing the school board with thoughtful options and well‑reasoned recommendations.
  • Demonstrate experience in school finance, including responsible resource allocation, fiscal oversight, and transparent decision‑making aligned with district priorities.
  • Lead with honesty and high ethical standards, fostering trust and credibility with the school board, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Be visible, accessible, and engaged across the district, maintaining strong relationships through an open and approachable leadership style.
  • Actively promote business and community involvement, cultivating partnerships that enhance educational opportunities and strengthen community connections.

Previous superintendent experience is not required.

They value transparency, clear communication, and trust‑building in a close‑knit community, and they partner effectively with the school board to make well‑informed decisions that support students, staff, and long‑term district stability. The ideal candidate:

  • Demonstrates sound experience in school finance, aligning resources with priorities while maintaining transparency and sustainability.
  • Leads with honesty and ethical practice, earning confidence across the school community.
  • Works cooperatively with the school board, respecting governance roles and supporting effective decision‑
