Special Education Teacher – Grades 1-4

Available Position – Special Education Teacher – Jefferson Elementary (Grades 1 – 4)

Job Summary:
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs, in collaboration with parents, teachers, and other support staff.
Provide direct instruction to students using evidence-based teaching strategies and differentiated instruction techniques.
Assess students’ strengths and challenges, use data to inform instructional decisions, and modify teaching approaches as needed.
Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued, respected, and supported.
Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and other specialists to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to student learning and development.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, address concerns, and solicit feedback.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education and enhance your skills as an educator

Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
Licensure in ABS is preferred, other areas will be considered.
Valid teaching license/certification in Special Education.
Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including but not limited to: autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and specific learning disabilities.
Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, administrators and external stakeholders.

This position provides regular curricular instruction in language arts, math, social studies, health, social-emotional learning, and science. The successful candidate will carry out responsibilities as defined by the master contract, maintains high-quality communication and cooperation with stakeholders, and believes that all students can attain high levels of learning. Demonstrates continued professional development through coursework, research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development. Working knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students learning styles and needs, both academic and effective. Possesses the knowledge and skills to build effective educational experiences that benefit all students. Takes responsibility for the learning of our students and his/her own performance.

Youth Mental Health Navigator

Youth Mental Health Navigator

A full-time (1.00 FTEs) position as a Youth Mental Health Navigator is available beginning August 2025, for the 2025-26 school year.

Summary of Duties:
Provide social work services in the role of Youth Mental Health Navigator by collaborating with school social workers and local mental health partners.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Collaborate with school social workers regarding students who need community mental health resources and services.
  2. Collaborate with school social workers on the necessary individual student’s need to access outside mental health services.
  3. Maintain effective communication with County Social Services Agencies with focus on students experiencing social and emotional issues.
  4. Network and consult with community professionals who may provide potential mental health services to students and their families.

Qualifications Required:
MN licensure as a School Psychologist, School Counselor, or School Social Worker is required.

Organizational Relationships:
This position reports directly to the Director of Student Support Services.

Working Conditions:

  • School setting
  • Approximately 191 day contract
  • Some summer work may be available
  • Standard office environment
  • Local and state-wide travel as part of service delivery
  • Some lifting and movement of materials and/or equipment typically <50 lbs.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work preferred.
  • Valid Minnesota Department of Education School Social Work License
  • State of Minnesota Board of Social Work License
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Others with experience in mental health fields will be considered.

 

Salary Range:
$49,591 – $88,577 (based on the MTA salary schedule)
