Corrections Teaching Assistant

The Minnesota Department of Corrections has an opening for a Teaching Assistant at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Faribault. This position assists and provides support to offenders in literacy, library, and intake programs to meet education’s goals and objectives for Adult Basic Education, English Language Learning, secondary credential attainment, college preparation, life skills, transfer, and/or reentry.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Tutor and assist students in their daily educational needs.
  • Proctor testing to offenders and provide support to the Education Unit as needed.
  • Provide departmental administrative support.
  • Assist Special Teachers in preparation for testing, teaching activities and recordkeeping and manage special projects for the Education Unit.
  • This position is located at a Minnesota Correctional Facility and will have direct offender contact.

Adult Basic Education Teacher

This position is located in a correctional facility and has direct contact with offenders.

Compensation for the successful candidate will be commensurate with the level of education attained and number of years of prior teaching experience approved at the time of hire.

English Learner (EL) Coordinator #2322

Major Responsibilities:
Performs difficult professional work coordinating programs for English learners, and related work as apparent or
assigned.  Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Second Languages and Cultures, EL teaching, or related field and considerable experience teaching English learners, acting as an EL administrator, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
Minnesota English as a Second Language teaching license.
Ability to read, communicate and understand a second language is preferred.
Experience working in a multi cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.
Alternatives to the qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable will also be considered.
Valid driver’s license in the State of Minnesota.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts in-service and training for English Learners (EL) education services; coordinates EL designs and subsequent program articulation, refinement and implementation.
  • Facilitates communication regarding programs between staff, administrators, students, parents, various groups and committees.
  • Assists in district wide coordination of family involvement activities.
  • Facilitates and directs the compilation of student data; coordinates the EL education program selection committee and processes; supervises appeals process within EL program.
  • Coordinates and communicates needs of students identified for EL services; chairs the curriculum review committee for EL education.
  • Acts as an advocate for EL students; acts as a liaison for communication to and from others.
  • Assists in the planning of EL summer school programs.
  • Assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of staff development focused on increasing academic achievement of minority students.
  • Acts as an advocate for equity and meeting the needs of disadvantaged students.
  • Assists in the analysis of data related to student academic achievement.

standard office practices, procedures and equipment; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; general knowledge of English Learner methods and procedures; thorough skill operating standard office equipment, personal computer and applicable hardware and software; thorough skill performing data entry; ability to speak and read English accurately and rapidly; ability to create and maintain files, records, reports and databases in a timely and effective manner both electronically and on paper; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written formats; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, teachers, employees and the general public.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently
requires speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive
motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Controller

The Controller is responsible for managing the budgetary financial functions of accounting, reporting, analysis and preparation of general business and financial affairs of Lakeville Area Public Schools in an effort to provide the best possible educational programs and services in the most efficient manner possible.

  • Work with the Executive Director of Business Services in supervision of all School District budget preparation.  Coordinate and manage the budget development process and oversee the appropriate procedures in budget development, preparation and control.  Manage and coordinate the preparation of all District budget booklets.
  • Conduct budgetary scenario development, analysis, prepare and develop management reports as needed in an appropriate format as required by administration, Finance Committee and School Board. Develop, review and recommend policy, methods and procedures relating to the efficient and effective accounting of School District funds.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, and Administer and update a financial system which will accurately reflect the financial operations of the School District.
  • Administer School District accounting functions consistent with established GASB and UFARS guidelines.
  • Maintain and operate the Financial and H/R Pay systems used by ISD #194.
  • Coordinate the annual School District Financial audit as well as plan and manage the completion of all audit work-papers in preparation of Comprehensive Annual Financial Report completed in accordance with UFARS and GAAP.
  • Project and maintain adequate records of School District cash flow and make recommendations for investments or borrowing with the degree of security prescribed by statute.
  • Determine and assign proper classification and reporting of all financial transactions in accordance with UFARS and GAAP.
  • Responsible for severance/retirement payments and insures they are made in accordance with contract language.
  • Perform all long-term debt management activities.
  • Monitor legal compliance in the area of school finance law and IRS statutes.
  • Ensures that financial internal controls and policies and procedures are adhered to district-wide.
  • Manage the financial requirements in the preparation of local, state and federal applications and reporting.
  • Assist in organizing and supervision of finance staff for year-end close out.
  • Assist in organizing and supervising of finance staff for annual external audit.
  • Work with external auditors and actuaries.
  • Supervises Accountants and Accounts Payable finance staff.
  • Attends staff development opportunities offered through MDE, MASBO, ASBO, and various financial firms.
  • Serves on District Finance Advisory Committee and also Sourcewell Finance Advisory Board.
  • Coordinates the retention and destruction of Business Office records.
  • Ability to make effective presentations to the School Board and District Administration.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director of Business Services.
