DISTRICT INFORMATION:

The South Washington County School district includes four St. Paul suburbs of Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park and Woodbury as well as portions of three other communities.  Our district includes approximately 100,000 residents with 19,000 students enrolled in our schools. We have sixteen (K-5) elementary schools, four (6-8) middle schools, three (9-12) high schools and an alternative high school.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist the building principal in performing instructional leadership and management of the educational program to maximize student learning.   Assist with managing, evaluating and supervising effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of the school district.  This includes instructional programs, co-curricular activities, and student management systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations and emergency procedures.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the principal in the overall operation of the school and serve as a building instructional leader.
  • Support a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
  • Assist with developing and administering annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for all students.
  • Continually monitor student progress and outcomes.  Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with staff, students, parents and community members through all programs and activities.
  • Assist in preparing and managing budget for the building, maintain accurate budgetary records as required by district policies and procedures.
  • Support creating a high performing staff through effective hiring and evaluation systems.  Develop, coach, train, mentor and manage staff as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, school board policies and school district procedures.
  • Assist with supervising the instructional programs of the school on a regular basis to ensure the use of effective instructional strategies, content and materials consistent with research on learning, student growth and development.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages staff and students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
  • Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model.
  • Participate in professional development workshops, activities and seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Education Coordinator

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Special Education Coordinator representative as broad grouping of various positions responsible for providing leadership, coordination and facilitating special education services and programs with assigning member district(s) and or MAWSECO program(s).  Representative duties including monitoring and ensures compliance with special education due process procedures/laws/requirements and paperwork to staff or member district administrator(s), coordinates staff development, facilitates special education transportation, participates in IEP meetings, makes recommendations budgetary needs/requirements and staffing allocations/needs, serves as a resources and liaison between member district(s) or program(s) and MAWSECO, assists in the design and implementation of curriculum, instructional methodology, programming and facility needs.

Background Information:  MAWSECO is an agency of seven member school districts (Annandale, Dassel-Cokato, Delano, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Litchfield, Maple Lake and Rockford) that have joined together to provide services in the area of special education. The mission of the Cooperative is to provide quality special education leadership, services and support to its seven member school districts’ staff, students and families as well as other agencies/districts that purchase its services.  The MAWSECO central office is located in Howard Lake, MN which is west of the metro and south of St. Cloud.

Mankato Area Public Schools has a position available for a Student Support Coordinator with the Teaching and Learning department.

Summary of Duties: The Student Support Coordinator provides leadership that ensures compliance with federal regulations and promotes effective intervention programs to improve the academic achievement of all Title and EL students across the district.  This position will:Oversee the Title I, II, III, and V program requirements, priorities, activities, and plans with general program leadership to ensure program efficiency, accountability, and concordance with district targets and improvement plans.
Coordinate and oversee federal program planning, implementation, and compliance.
Supervise Title I and EL paraprofessionals including hiring, training, evaluation, and scheduling.
Coordinate and oversee EL program planning and implementation.
Qualifications Required:

Holds a Bachelor’s degree with extensive coursework in Education or Education Administration. Master’s degree or equivalent educational experience preferred
Holds a valid MN Teaching License
Has at least five years of teaching experience.
Has demonstrated evidence of educational leadership
Has demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community

Other Information: This is a full-time, 12-month, non-affiliated position with Category III benefits.
