This position will support our setting IV program located in Pine City – VISION

Position Purpose:
The special education teacher develops materials and lesson plans, conducts classroom instruction and evaluates and assesses both instructional materials and student performance. The teacher meets with parents, interprets student progress and informs parents/guardians about student strengths, weaknesses and/or progress. Additionally, the special education teacher facilitates Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Evaluation Summary Report (ESR) meetings and completes special education paperwork as determined by state and local due process requirements.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Plans instruction and other student support activities, including the establishment of overall goals and priorities, unit plans, classroom activities, (i.e. laboratory experiments, media presentations, etc.) and daily lesson plans, as applicable to the teacher’s particular assignment. Such plans should be consistent with the district/department goals and objectives; should consider the needs and abilities of the students; and should incorporate basic components of lesson design, as appropriate. Reviews, selects and modifies materials and resources consistent with instructional objectives and students’ participation.

2. Provides instruction to students in a manner which incorporates essential elements of instruction; i.e. teaching to specific objectives, teaching at appropriate levels of difficulty, including methods of extending students’ thinking, uses techniques to monitor student progress and adjusts instruction accordingly, and correctly employs various principles of learning.

3. Establishes and maintains student control/discipline in the classroom, on school premises, and/or in school activities by communicating expectations for appropriate behavior. Provides structure and consistency and encourages student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect in a manner consistent with district policies and procedures and legal requirements.

4. Participates in parent/teacher conferences. Interprets student strengths, weaknesses and/or problems that the student may be experiencing in the classroom.

5. Collaborates with other professional staff regarding the needs of students, communicating accurately, preserving confidentiality of information and sharing approaches to instructional units and new teaching technologies or procedures available.

6. Develops student tests and evaluates results. Determines student grades for instructional units and reports grades to parents.

7. Develops and maintains adequate knowledge of the subject(s) taught or support services rendered, and demonstrates an understanding of how the subject(s) or support services fit into the overall district and department philosophy, objectives and curriculum.

8. Pursues professional development activities to broaden and deepen knowledge of content and teaching skills and continually identifies professional needs and develops strategies to meet these needs.

9. Collaborates with other professionals regarding the formulation of building site procedures.

10. Facilitates IEP and ESR meetings as determined by state and local due process requirements.

11. Completes all special education paperwork in compliance with state and local due process requirements.

12. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

The Perpich Center for Arts Education (PCAE) was created by statute in 1985. The center/agency is dedicated to improving K-12 arts education for all Minnesota students and educators through innovative programs and partnerships centered on the arts. A 30-acre campus in Golden Valley houses the Center’s three main components: The Professional Development and Research Group (PDR), the Arts High School (AHS), and the PCAE Library. PCAE serves as the premier source for arts education in Minnesota and is nationally recognized for its rigorous arts and academic programs.

Job Summary

The PCAE Board of Directors is seeking an Interim Director to lead the Perpich Center from on or about November 22, 2024, to on or about July 1, 2025. The ending date will depend on the final retention of a permanent Executive Director. The final Executive Director description will be posted in January or February 2025 for that person to start in the 2025-2026 academic school year, or sooner if desired. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a statewide academic position that is in a lively, interesting, goal-oriented environment.

The Executive Director, working with the Board of Directors, management team, and staff, provides leadership and direction in matters of policy, personnel, budgeting, growth, and change for the agency. The Executive Director is appointed by the PCAE Board of Directors, who are appointed by the governor. The Executive Director, reporting to the Board of Directors, maintains a close working relationship with the Board in carrying out its policies and directions. The Executive Director must work closely with all external and internal stakeholders, the governor, the legislature, the relevant state offices, and artists and educators statewide.

NCIC Facilitator – Equity Advocacy Coalition

The Nobles County Integration Collaborative (NCIC) – a consortium of adjacent school districts in the Nobles County area – promotes student success and community acceptance of differences by providing opportunities for students, families and staff from diverse backgrounds to learn from and with one another.  The NCIC is seeking professional development facilitators/presenters to do presentations for our Equity Advocacy Coalition.  The topics for presentation will be focused on identifying and discussing systemic injustices and creating equity.

SECTION II:  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, prepare, and implement a presentation about issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice and/or systemic oppression to an audience of mainly licensed educators and administrators.
Create engaging and informational media content that can be projected in the classroom and online.
Work with NCIC and ISD 518 staff members when preparing and implementing the presentation.

School Psychologist – Long Term Substitute

JOB GOAL:

Psychoeducational Assessment:

Student Support Team Participation:

• Assist in the organization and evaluation of the Student Services Team as implemented at the building and District levels.

Student Interventions:
• Provide brief student interventions to improve social/emotional development, alleviate situational stressors and assist with academic difficulties.
• Conduct screenings to determine if other interventions may be appropriate.
• Intervene with students and consult with parents, staff, and other outside agencies when students evidence suicidal ideation, gesturing or attempts.
• Collaborate with other Student Service Team members and building administrators relative to student issues of abuse/harassment.

Due Process Coordination (IDEA, 504 and Child Study):
• Maintain knowledge of current law and practice relative to special education/504 due process procedures.
• Assure compliance with due process procedures from referral through placement.
• Chair IEP/Child Study meetings and complete IEP/Child Study report and other associated paperwork.
• Provide inservice to staff addressing current due process requirements and practices.
