- Knowledge of social work modalities and procedures as well as models of school social work practices;

- Knowledge of mental health assessment; an understanding of the most common disorders and co-morbidity, as related to the diagnosis, and the impact on education;
- Knowledge of crisis assessment, intervention, and de-escalation; suicide assessment;
- Skill in communication, especially regarding conflict resolution;
- Skill in social work individual and group processes;
- Skill in performing assessments for mental health, chemical health, and crisis;
- Skill in completing IEP goal development for social work goals;
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Essential Functions
- Serving students by supporting their social and emotional needs to ensure maximum benefit from their educational experience as well as teaching and modeling problem-solving skills in order to become resilient, successful learners and citizens;
- Helping students by building social skills through initiating and maintaining relationships along with identifying mental health needs and locating access to services;
- Supporting teachers by providing direct and indirect services for students, identifying barriers to learning, collaborating with the educational team, and assisting with academic as well as mental health and behavioral interventions;
- Supporting the special education process including all due process requirements within each program as to increase awareness of family, cultural, and community factors impacting students;

- Ensuring that parents are intricately involved in their child’s education by bridging families to community resources; strengthening and empowering parenting skills; as well as educating families in understanding school policies and procedures;
- Providing crisis management and referrals in situations involving a behavioral, mental health, or chemical health crisis by conducting suicide assessments;
- Providing support for students dealing with mental health or behavioral issues, which may not be at the crisis level; but, could negatively impact the student’s ability to continue the school day;
- Collaborating with co-located mental health and outside support services in understanding school policies, programs, and practices by identifying resources to adequately meet the needs of students and families and by coordinating and participating with contracted consulting services;
- Partnering with administration and/or leadership staff to promote, plan, and participate in supporting a positive, affirming school environment addressing issues such as: Truancy, Bullying, Chemical Health, Teen Pregnancy, Violence Suicide, and Self-Injurious Behavior (SIB), Child Abuse and Neglect, and School Safety;
- Documenting student contact, including Medical Assistance (MA) billings;
- Performing related duties as assigned.
