Required
Bachelor’s degree in business, management or related field
5 years job related experience
Valid MN Driver’s License
Education or training in HVAC, facility management, construction or related area
Preferred
Chief Engineer License
Staff and project management experience
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Operations, the Director of Buildings and Grounds is responsible for the overall budget, management, operations and programs of all District Buildings and Grounds and the supervision of the Health and Safety Department. The Director of Buildings and Grounds will provide leadership and work with the district administration, building principals, and other school employees to ensure a well-maintained, safe, and secure environment for students and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Directs activities of all district building and grounds and warehouse personnel
Plans and coordinates the activities for new construction and land development within the district
Plans and oversees the implementation of remodeling projects, renovations or major repair projects
Oversees purchasing and maintains accurate records and documentation
Responsible for the oversight, tracking and distribution of warehouse inventory district-wide
Monitors and supervises the approved budget for Building and Grounds
Determines staffing needs and requirements
Meets with district administrators to assess needs, projects and priorities within each building
Develops recommendations for capital outlay needs and requirements
Determines work priorities, plans and organizational structure and functions within positions of Buildings and Grounds
Initiates recruitment, screens, interviews, and recommends department personnel
Initiates all personnel actions for department personnel including evaluation, transfer, promotion, demotion, discipline and dismissal decisions of department staff
Secures and oversees the recruitment and selection of seasonal department personnel
Oversees staff development activities and training sessions
Obtains necessary quotes and bids for purchasing equipment, materials, supplies and professional services in compliance with state statute, School District policy and ethical guidelines
Conducts staff meetings with department personnel
Project Management
Assists contractors, consultants, and architects in the design of buildings and facilities
Assists contractors, consultants, and architects in the diagnosis and remedies of problems during and after the construction of facilities
Plans and oversees the implementation of new construction, remodeling projects, renovations or major repairs
Monitors and serves as a liaison between the District and contractors, consultants, and architects
Supervises Health and Safety Department
Oversees Environmental Health and Safety programs
Supervises and directs Health and Safety staff
Ensure the safety, health and comfort of students, staff and public while on district grounds and facilities
Ensures monitoring and oversight of all material abatement and/or air quality testing, removal or improvement activities
Ensures compliance with OSHA and other local, state, and federal safety mandates
Plans and implements strategies and programs to accomplish department objectives
Formulates and establishes procedures and preventive maintenance schedules/programs
Monitors and serves as a liaison between the district and contractors, consultants and architects
Determines and monitors district-wide maintenance needs, requirements and priorities
Inspects all school buildings and grounds on a regular basis to determine needs, custodial/maintenance requirements, and security requirements
Implements security improvements and staff responsibilities; responds to building alarms
Oversees the preparation of playing fields and their care
Coordinates the plowing of snow and maintenance activities of all district property
Oversees the servicing, repair and replacement of grounds equipment
Participates on the district safety committee
Oversees and monitors mechanical systems throughout the district
Monitors department logs and records of service, repair and maintenance
Monitors building energy usage
Visually inspects building mechanical equipment
Communication and Customer Relations
Establishes and operates a continuous improvement system based on District goals, and direction from School Board and District administration
Maintains effective and proactive communication with the School Board, public, employees, and parents
Answer questions, resolve complaints, and distribute necessary information to staff and community
Other duties as assigned
