North Lakes Academy is seeking applications for the 2018-19 school year for special education. Preferred candidates have appropriate licensure and experience with due process paperwork. NLA is a small charter school located in Forest Lake MN serving 20% SpEd student population in a supportive, innovative environment. We value capacity to perform tasks at a high level by limiting caseloads and duties so staff can serve students well.

NLA special education staff work with caseloads typically between 10-15 students, majority of which are federal setting 1 or 2.

The position will include: facilitate support groups, study strategies, time management/organization, new student group, and implement interventions for struggling students. Position would coordinate academic interventions between teachers and students. Counselor must exhibit ability to manage and track multiple students’ academic progress and needs, act as a liaison between EL department, teachers, Deans, and School Counselors. This position will require attention to detail, knowledge of googledocs, and the ability to collaborate with multiple staff in the building. Responsibilities include creating a positive and supportive classroom climate, engaging in a variety of instructional techniques and behavior management strategies that insure effective implementation of student IEP’s, administering lesson plans, providing instruction on assigned subject areas, and providing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
