Early Childhood Educational Assistant

Position Description: Assist Early Childhood teachers with performing duties necessary to meet the educational needs of the preschool classroom by prepping lesson plans and activities as directed by the classroom teacher. The Educational Assistant’s primary focus is on making necessary preparations for meeting the student learning needs through the order and arrangement of the classroom, support spaces and daily lesson materials. Language Skills: Read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondences, and memos. Strong oral communication skills necessary to establish and maintain preschool learning environment. Physical Demands: Mobility and agility to occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds, work on the floor and at preschool-sized learning centers. Hearing, speech, and sight are required. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Other Skills & Abilities: Maintain flexibility and model a positive attitude in day-to-day dealing with staff and students. Maintain the confidentiality of all information regarding students. Perform duties within a tight daily schedule and with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Schedule: 4 days per week / 8:15 AM – 4:15 PM daily schedule for 123 student days in the academic calendar. Staff meetings held monthly program calendar and position description available upon request. Occasional shift of prep hours to Friday mornings when new learning units are introduced into classrooms.

The Early Childhood Family Education Educator collaborates closely with all members of the program team and families to provide nurturing care and education to young children in a group and/or inclusive setting; in accordance with the goals and curriculum plans of the District.

Other Skills & Abilities:
Provide a variety of strategies in working with students, and maintain flexibility in day-to-day dealing with staff, parents, and stakeholders.  Uses technology, including computers, tablets, smartboards, educational software, and online resources, to provide engaging and differentiated learning opportunities. Teaching children with varying skills and abilities using a variety of age-appropriate teaching methods. Excellent service orientation and interpersonal communications skills with internal and external customers. Use technology software to fulfill job requirements and engage students. Must understand and comply with all protocols related to data privacy.  Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.  Consistent and reliable attendance.

Position Summary:
The Teacher is a stand-alone classification.  Performs difficult professional work providing a broad range of teaching and direct instructional services or specific learning programs within District curriculum guidelines, assisting students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each student’s ability, using a variety of teaching and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Building Principal.  Continuous oversight is exercised over paraprofessionals.
