Worthington District 518 is a diverse and growing school community with approximately 670 students at Prairie Elementary (K-2).

Position Overview
The chosen candidate (1.0 FTE) will be working with students in grades K-2, providing 30 minute classes while also collaborating with another full-time music specialist in the building. Candidate should have a strong desire to help younger students form a strong foundation in their musical skills and inspire in them a love for music. ISD 518 is committed to providing students with quality music education, offering orchestra, band, and choir beginning in upper elementary.

Primary Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to all assigned music educational teacher duties and responsibilities, which will include: the implementation of music curriculum, communicating with parents, facilitating a love for music, and working collaboratively with music colleagues across all buildings in the district. We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm to work with young elementary students.

Qualifications
Current Minnesota State Licensure in Elementary Music Education required. Position requires someone who is enthusiastic, self-motivated about teaching young students and working with staff, and has the ability to be a flexible team member. Candidate must have strong communication skills, and value working in partnership with parents and other staff members to provide a professional learning community focused on improving student learning.

Licensing Requirements
Valid Minnesota Teaching License in K-12 Vocal and Classroom Music, or eligibility, required.

Elementary School Counselor Grades (3-5)

Worthington School District 518 is seeking an Elementary School Counselor for the 2023-24 school year at the Worthington Intermediate School, a 3rd through 5th grade setting.  Candidates should exhibit knowledge of school counseling theories and practices, strong leadership, organizational and communication skills, and ability to work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds. Also experience in identification and facilitation of individual and small group counseling interventions to support developmental and preventative needs of individual students in the school.

Position Description:

The Apprentice Teacher position is a two-year program which provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals interested in pursuing a career in education to explore the field of education and to gain hands-on practice and the training necessary to become a successful full-time classroom teacher. It is preferred that Apprentice Teachers are actively enrolled, or plan to enroll, in teacher licensure programs. Apprentice Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction and education reform from experienced teachers and school leaders. Apprentice Teachers observe and learn from strong veteran teachers, co-teach with teacher-leaders, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for teachers, and support teachers with grading, and individual or small group student instruction. Apprentice Teachers will also offer teacher support with a variety of work inside and outside of the classroom, including teaching intervention and/or enrichment groups, organizing student events, and developing positive relationships with students. Through full participation in summer and school-year professional development, as well as regular meetings with continuous improvement and innovation coaches, Apprentice Teachers will have many opportunities to gain the experience and support necessary to develop their teaching skills. By the end of the two-year experience, Apprentice Teachers will be very strong candidates for a teaching position.

Program Information:

This position will work with students district wide and their families, servicing students in General and Special Education settings within Centerview Elementary School, grades K-4.

Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will provide excellent instruction and case management skills to students with speech/language and other types of disabilities.  This includes:

  • providing direct instruction to students;
  • working collaboratively with school staff and family homes, while managing all aspects of due process procedures and mandates;
  • communicating with parents to provide regular updates on student successes and challenges;
  • collaborating with principals, special education coordinator and staff, and professional learning communities, to ensure student needs are being met; and
  • maintaining student records of services provided, following Due Process best practices and compliance;

The counselor provides services to students, staff and families in the areas of personalized learning, guidance and counseling, school and classroom learning environment, and building leadership and supervision.

Personalized Learning, Guidance and Counseling

  • Primary advocate for aligning work of adults, including parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff, to meet student needs, interests, and aspirations
  • Work with students and families to develop, access, and use learner profiles and personal learner map
  • Create avenues for ongoing communication, and conduct face-to-face meetings with students and families as needed
  • Work with new students and parents for a successful transition to the school, including development of a personalized onboarding plan
  • Confer with students and parents on student learning style and preferences, interests and aspirations
  • Provide appropriate referral to other “pit crew” members (student & family advocates, school psychologists, behavior specialists, assistant principals, etc.), or provide short-term support services as appropriate, for students needing crisis intervention, emotional/social support and/or conflict resolution
  • Develops and implements 504 plans, as appropriate
  • School and Classroom Learning EnvironmentPartner with school administration and teachers in implementing consistent school and staff expectations and practices, leading to a welcoming and culturally proficient learning community
  • Supports teachers and parents in addressing student behaviors related to, or impacting, learning
  • Collaborate with behavior specialists, dean of student, and assistant principals to develop, implement, and refine targeted behavior support plans
  • Provides a channel of communication for students to express concerns about the school program
  • Administration partner in regular building-level leadership meetings with school administration
  • Assist building administration with supervision of after school and evening functions
  • Assist with daily student supervision as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferences
We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm to work with students.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. or higher degree in education or a related area. Counselors will be licensed in one of the following areas: guidance/counseling, special education, social work, teaching or administration.

Applicants must have the ability and skills to relate to students and be sensitive to their needs, to provide a positive behavioral atmosphere for students, to work cooperatively with individuals and teams, the willingness and skills to use technology, and must have excellent communication with students, parents, and staff. Experience:  Basic child development educational background or knowledge, guidance and counseling.

Current Minnesota license or eligibility is preferred or in a program.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree and current Minnesota State Licensure in K-6 Elementary Education.  Additional demonstrated qualifications include:  knowledge of immersion and multilingual learning; commitment to the equitable education of all students; creative planning and organizational skills, and highly effective interpersonal skills. Prefer candidate with experience working with diverse learners.

Licensing Requirements
Current Minnesota K-6 Elementary Education license or eligibility is required.
