Communication Arts Teacher ($2,000 Hiring Incentive)

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the High School Principal, to develop students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, foster communication skills, develop an understanding and appreciation of literature of all types, motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information, comprehend and critically assess the reading materials, and to promote the development of skills in the field of English reading, grammar and syntax.

Essential Functions
Develops and administers Communication Arts curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
Teaches knowledge and skills in English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage, word denotations and connotations, creative writing, independent thinking, communication and speaking.
Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions on a variety of reading materials, including the mass media, and a wide range of literature.
Works with students and others to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications, contests, etc.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs.
Maintains familiarity with district and MN State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
Minnesota State Certification as an Communication Arts/ Lit Teacher.

Education:Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Masters Degree in related area preferred.
Experience:
Successful prior teaching experiences in Communication Arts a plus.

School Social Worker

District 518 is offering a $2,000 hiring incentive for teaching positions in which an individual is new to our School District.  Current open positions will see a minimum of $2,000 incentive for joining our District and joining our team.

Worthington Intermediate School is seeking a School Social Worker.  Candidates should have knowledge of school social work theories and practices; have the ability to work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds; and possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.  Candidates should also have experience in identification and facilitation of individual and small group counseling interventions to support developmental and preventative needs of students in the school. Candidates should be able to assist students of all diverse backgrounds with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address potential mental health issues. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school administrators, and community-based resources, the school social worker implements strategies that promote a positive educational process for all students. Applicants must hold a valid K-12 School Social Work license in the state of Minnesota.  Salary will follow the Teacher Master Agreement.  This position qualifies for the Federal Student Aid Stafford Loan Forgiveness Program for Teachers.

Position:
Provide high-quality early childhood education to students in the Centennial Early Childhood
Family Education program.

Job Description:
1. Plan, implement, and assess a curriculum that meets the various needs of children aged
birth to five
2. Collaborate with other early childhood educators to plan and implement lessons
3. Co-teach and collaborate with early childhood teacher(s) and parent educator(s)
4. Maintain effective classroom management
5. Demonstrate knowledge of child development and positive parenting practices
6. Model positive adult-child interaction
7. Stay up-to-date on current early childhood best practices
8. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding child’s development and progress in the
classroom
9. Meet with supervisor on a regular basis to discuss curriculum plans, classroom needs,
etc./as needed
10. Participate in monthly staff meetings and monthly check-in meetings with supervisor
11. Assist in other capacities as determined by the Director.

Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Early Childhood Education, Child
Development, Child and Family Studies, Elementary Education or other programs of
similar focus and content
● Holds Minnesota Department of Education teaching license in Early Childhood
Education
● Has knowledge of child development and best practices in early childhood care
● Demonstrates successful skills in organization, verbal and written communication, and
working with children and families of diverse backgrounds
● Ability to utilize various forms of technology to enhance the program
● Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, patience, problem solving and flexibility
● Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the
facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations
Preferred
● A minimum of one year experience in early childhood education
● Experience working in inclusive settings
● Knowledge of the school district

Major Job Functions; Specific Tasks/Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills: This is a fulltime position in Special Education Elementary center-based program – AIM. The AIM program provides each student with individualized instruction, supports, and services needed to access the general education setting when appropriate to provide social interactions with peers and to increase independence. All district center-based programs are multi-categorical based on student needs. This program primarily serves students who have qualified for special education services under the categories of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD), including Moderate and Severe/Profound, or Severely Multiply Impaired (SMI). see attachment
