Job Description:   Full-Time (1.0 FTE) School Counselor at the Faribault Middle School.  This position commences with the 2023-24 school year on August 21, 2023.

Faribault Public Schools is a rural Pre-K through Adult School District located about 50 miles south of the Twin-Cities. The school district currently serves approximately 3,700 students in Faribault and our surrounding areas within our community of 23,000 citizens within the city limits. District sites include one early childhood center, three elementary schools K-5, one middle school 6-8, one high school 9-12, one area learning center 9-12 and one education center for adult education.

The historic community of Faribault offers adventure, fun, unique dining, history, shopping and entertainment. Counselor Supporting Restorative Practices

This position 1.0 FTE, based at Wildwood Elementary and O.H Anderson Elementary.  Salary and benefits part of the Teacher Master Agreement.

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a valid MN Counselor or licensed School Social Worker, or able to obtain the appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board.  Board Certified Behavior Analyst preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Must demonstrate strong knowledge and skills in areas of restorative practices
  • Successful experience supporting students and staff through positive behavioral interventions
  • Ability to support student behavior to ensure a safe, supportive, equitable and culturally responsive learning environment
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in working with students and families of diverse racial and economic backgrounds
  • Experience as an elementary school counselor is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction and clear communication in the curriculum area
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Promote student-student and staff-student relationship building
  • Collaborate with building administration to plan and implement building-wide restorative practice
  • Monitor and track discipline data and effectively measure school climate/culture data
  • Make program recommendations to ensure discipline process is restorative
  • Provide individual support for student behavioral and social-emotional needs
  • Provide support to parents/guardians in order to promote positive school/family relationship and enhance student learning
  • Serve as staff facilitator of Youth Leadership Collaborative
  • Foster a community where all people are valued, respected, seen and heard
  • Inspire robust academics, critical and creative thinking and continuous personal growth
  • Create world-class learning experiences that integrate multiple perspectives
  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
  • Attend department, school and parent meetings or functions
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Health Services Coordinator

General Definition of Work: Performs intermediate professional work providing continuation of the nursing process steps throughout the district,  supervising staff, collecting data, facilitating meetings, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is  performed under the limited supervision of the Special Services Director.  Supervision is exercised over all personnel in the department.

Essential Functions:Supervises the health services staff including developing individual health plans, creating procedures, administering and overseeing assessments, collecting data from team members, interdisciplinary collaboration, interpreting assessment results, compiling data and facilitating team meetings.
Provides nursing diagnosis and treatment of student and staff; administers and records daily prescription or other medication; administers first aid and emergency or non-emergency situations.
Serves as a resource to staff and students for health or medical issues; informs staff of student health problems.
Providers support and care for students with chronic or acute health problems; assists and cares for students with health problems.
Assists with maintaining and updating student health records.
Refers students to appropriate staff or outside service providers.
Coordinates and implements screening and prevention of communicable diseases.
Plans and provides screening programs for vision, hearing and scoliosis; conducts follow up assessments from referrals.
Assists with coordinating the wellness programs and blood borne pathogens programs.
Recommends and monitors annual health services budget and staffing plans.
Monitors timelines and records for Health Services.
Participates in the referral process; communicates with parents and staff; attends meetings as necessary, and follows up with placed referrals.
Delegates, trains, supervises and provides direction to non-certified/unlicensed staff.
Attends various meetings as a representative and member of the district.
