Job Goal: The Director of Teaching and Learning will serve as the person primarily responsible for all curriculum, instruction and staff development related activities in the school district. The Director of Teaching and Learning will be a critical part of the district’s administrative team and work with teachers, department heads, team leaders in developing, articulating and implementing the learning goals for the district. The Director will be responsible for supervising and implementing all state and local assessment, directing state and federal mandated curriculum programs, and coordinating state and federal grants related to curriculum instruction and assessment.
Reports to: District Administrator.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instructional program.
2. Guide the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, courses and instructional services.
3. Provide leadership in the development of a coordinated, integrated, and articulated program of instruction in all areas of instruction, K-12.
4. Provide leadership in the areas of Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s), Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) and other research-based frameworks and strategies.
5. Can lead and assist with proactive behavior intervention programs such as restorative practices, responsive classrooms, BRIH design.
6. Support the district’s literacy framework.
7. Supervise and coordinate all staff development activities for instructional staff; assist other supervisors with non-instructional staff.
8. Chair the district advisory committee and district curriculum team.
9. Supervise and coordinate all instructional activities associated with ESEA and Title I.
10. Directly supervise the GT Coordinator and District Reading Specialist.
11. Assist with the direct supervision of staff as requested by the District Administrator.
12. Supervise the selection and evaluation processes for all instructional staff.
13. Assist other administrators in the coordination of instructional programs and learning areas.
14. Oversee standardized assessment programs.
15. Implement long-range K-12 curriculum improvement according to action plans.
16. Direct and coordinate efforts relating to outside agency audits and evaluations including CESA, Wisconsin Standards, etc.
17. Monitor, evaluate, and seek local, state and federal grant programs related to curriculum.
18. Keep abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction, and furnish leadership in determining appropriateness of such developments in the district’s educational program.
19. Maintain liaison and active participation with educational leaders in curriculum and instruction at state, regional and national levels, including local universities.
20. Assist in the development, coordination and management of the sections of the district budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction.
21. Coordinate the district’s summer school curriculum.
22. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
