The District includes 8 elementary schools with kindergarten through grade 5 (some with voluntary pre-kindergarten programs), two middle schools with grades 6-8, one high school with grades 9-12 and one alternative high school. The District also includes one of the most extensive Community Education programs in the state, serving newborns up through senior citizens.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION FACILITATOR

Job Description:
Full-Time (1.0 FTE) Early Childhood Special Education Facilitator. District Wide.  This position is for 200 contract days per fiscal year beginning immediately upon hire.  Leads building level Special Education team and partners with the Early Childhood Coordinator to plan programming and staffing related to special education students. Facilitates early childhood Child Find responsibilities in partnership with the Early Childhood Coordinator. Responsible for receiving and tracking of all referrals, including those through the state Help Me Grow system, assignment of evaluations, and assisting with student placement decisions.  Responsible for due process training and oversight and early childhood special education teacher evaluations. Participate in regional and state level ECSE meetings, complete state COS reporting, facilitate ESY programming and staffing, and assist with kindergarten transition planning.

Teacher – Continuous Special Education Substitute

The Continuous Special Education Substitute Teacher will be providing classroom instruction out of multiple classrooms.

Job summary: To inspire and prepare each and every scholar  with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning. In the absence of the special education teacher, the substitute teacher provides instruction, encourages student progress, and manages the learning environment.

Responsibilities and tasks include:  The substitute teacher will be assigned to classrooms where a special education teacher is absent with a focus on filling Connect, Skills or Strategies openings first before accepting open Resource positions to conduct assigned classes at the times scheduled; follow system policies and regulations concerning student conduct and discipline; follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, student records, parents and colleagues.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: 

 Demonstrate professional practices in teaching:

  • Follow teacher lesson plans
  • Encourage student progress
  • Support student who may be dysregulated

Minimum Qualifications include:

Valid Minnesota Teaching License in special education; ASD, DCD or EBD preferred. Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

Salary: $33/hour

Student Assistance Counselor

Job Summary:  To provide prevention and intervention services for students exhibiting high risk behaviors and their families in the areas of chemical abuse, truancy, and other acting out behaviors.

Responsibilities and tasks include: 

  • Work with building administration and counselors to identify students exhibiting high risk behaviors (i.e. chemical use, truancy, discipline issues, family concerns, runaway, anxiety, depression).
  • Conduct chemical pre-assessments with students as appropriate.
  • Participate in building student assistance teams.
  • Meet with students referred by building student assistance teams.
  • Provide one-to-one counseling and support groups for students as time permits.
  • Provide family consultation and support as necessary.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to provide services to students and their families.
  • Develop and/or implement prevention programs such as peer leadership groups, peer tutoring, mentor programs, etc. as time permits.
  • Other duties as assigned by principal.

Minimum Qualifications include: Minnesota Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (or in progress to obtain license within the first year of employment) and bachelors degree in human services related field such as counseling, social work, psychology, or mental health.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Possess strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to assess chemical concerns in students.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with truant and/or other high risk youth.
  • Knowledge of dynamics of chemical use, abuse and dependency and its effects on individuals, families, peers.
  • Knowledge of current counseling theories and practices with experience in individual and group counseling and prevention best practices.
  • Knowledge of community resources for youth and families.

Work schedule: 16 hours per week

General Purpose of Job: To inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning.  To be responsible for planning and leading Kidstop activities for grades K-5.
Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Implement program curriculum.
  • Implement and participate in the program in a way that meets the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of the children.
  • Promote the effective use of time, materials, and standards for student conduct.
  • In cooperation with the Program Manager and other site staff, maintain the continual well being of children in the program.  This includes individual child conferences as needed with parents and staff.
  • Participate in all children’s activities; leads small group activities.
  • Maintain an attractive, safe, and functional room environment; includes bulletin boards, lockers/closets, supervising clean-up time.  Assist in the planning and purchasing of supplies and equipment.
  • Keep child related/program related records, such as attendance, programs, schedules, and others as determined by the Program Manager.
  • Greet parents and children.
  • Work with and support all children in the program.
  • Be knowledgeable of the overall philosophy of Kidstop and the policies and procedures of the program.
  • Complete required trainings as needed.
  • Perform additional site duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include: Must be 18 years of age

  • Must meet requirements of State of Minnesota School Age Childcare Program Standards including a minimum of 120 hours of training in child development, guidance, and/or recreational coursework.
  • Must have 2,080 hours experience working with children ages 5-12 in a childcare program setting.

Job Type:  Casual
Hours:  Varies between 6:15am – 6:15pm, Monday – Friday
Program Dates:  2022-2023 School Year

Salary Range:  $17.88

To be responsible for interacting with Four Star and/or Kidstop children in an enriching school year school-age care program.

 Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Interacting with the children on and off site to insure their safety and that they are having fun.
  • Participate in all the children’s activities, e.g., organized games, drawing.
  • Greet parents and children
  • Work with and support all children in the program.
  • Lead small group activities.
  • Interact with children during activity time, meal time, and outdoor time.
  • Assist other site staff in preparing and implementing program activities, preparing snacks, and ordering supplies.
  • Work together with other staff to meet the needs of all of the participants.
  • Complete required trainings as provided.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include: Must be 16 years of age.

  • Must be energetic, have strong organizational skills, be confident, patient, sensitive, understanding and able to work with elementary aged students.
  • Must believe in the mission of District 279 and have the desire to build on the strengths of the district.
  • Must be a team player and able to communicate with all ages.
  • Must love working with all children and have previous working experience. Child development knowledge a plus.
  • Current First Aid and CPR training or within 90 days of employment.

Job Type: Casual

Salary Range: $15.50
