ABOUT THE COMMUNITY/SCHOOL DISTRICT:

The West Central Area School District’s main office is in Barrett, Minnesota. The school district has an approximate enrollment of 766 pre-kindergarten through grade twelve students.

LEADERSHIP PROFILE: The West Central Area School Board seeks a superintendent who:

  • Possesses strong character, acting with honesty in an ethical manner while interacting with the School Board, staff, and community
  • Is a “people person” with proven abilities in human relations and communications (written and verbal)
  • Has knowledge in school finance and long-term facility maintenance planning and management
  • Is a strategic thinker who can create and communicate a vision that encompasses what is best for staff and students
  • Has a history of involvement and visibility in the school district and the community you live in and promotes accessibility to the School Board, staff, students, parents, and community
  • Delegates authority while maintaining accountability
  • Works collaboratively with the School Board and provides options and recommendations for the     School Board to consider

Previous superintendent experience preferred, but not required.

SALARY/CONTRACT: A competitive compensation package, with a minimum salary of $115,000, will be negotiated commensurate with experience and qualifications. The contract length is negotiable as provided in Minnesota statute.

 Position Summary:
This Special Education Teacher position is part of Owatonna Public School’s Discovery program. Discovery classrooms provide trauma-responsive specialized programming and instruction for students who require support with dysregulation and displays that impact learning. Discovery teachers work closely within a team structure which includes paraprofessionals, behavior interventionists, school social workers, related service providers, and administration. Students also access general education courses as appropriate to their educational plan; the Discovery teacher plans jointly with the general education teacher to provide the accommodations and modifications necessary in order for the student to access and make progress within the general education curriculum.

All members of the Discovery program are highly trained and supported; they utilize Life Space Crisis Intervention strategies and track individual student data through the Performance Tracking System. Weekly team meetings and joint planning provide clarity and consistency for both staff and students.

Qualifications:
Valid MN Special Education Teaching – EBD or ABS licensure required.  Experience with Setting III specialized programming for students struggling with behavior and dysregulation preferred.  Consistent and reliable attendance is required.

Special Education Teacher (School Year 2022-2023)

This Special Education teacher position is part of Owatonna Public School’s K-12 educational program. The teacher works within a team structure to provide specialized instruction to students with multicategorical disabilities. The team structure includes general education teachers, other special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administration. The teacher may co-teach within the general education setting or teach individuals or small groups within the special education setting. The teacher plans jointly with the general education teacher to provide the accommodations and modifications necessary in order for the student to access and make progress within the general education curriculum.

Speech Language Pathologist (2022-2023 School Year)

The Speech Language Pathologist performs professional work assessing and delivering instructional and clinical services to individual and small groups of students with speech and language impairments, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in speech language pathology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Minnesota licensure in speech language pathology; Certificate of Clinical Competency preferred.
