The Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1920. We are located in St. Peter, Minnesota. MSBA prides itself as being a “Go-To” education association by providing workshops, resources, services, and connections designed to help school boards save time, reduce expenses, govern efficiently, and stay inspired.

Position

MSBA is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Board Development and Learning to join the Board Development Team. This position has a hybrid working model; it requires evening and occasional weekend hours.

Primary Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Board Development and Learning will:

  • Design and develop a variety of training resources, curriculum, programs, and services utilizing various media and formats (synchronous, asynchronous, blended) to support school board and superintendent teams.
  • Review existing training resources, curriculum, programs, and services; suggest enhancements and modifications to improve engagement and learning and to meet the changing needs of members and the Association.
  • Conduct/facilitate member training sessions, in-person and virtually.
  • Assist the Director of Board Development with the planning and delivery of the annual Leadership Conference and Summer Seminar.
  • Facilitate handling requests for information.
  • Interact with individuals at all levels of the Association and members.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience designing and developing curriculum.
  • Demonstrated presentation, project management, and time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, demonstrate flexibility, and prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Office365, virtual meeting platforms, and survey software.
  • Knowledge of public education, student achievement, and the role of school boards and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion related programs is desirable.

Communications Coordinator

General Definition of Work:The Communications Coordinator performs intermediate skilled human support work providing leadership and direction for all district wide internal and external communications consistent with a plan that supports and aligns with the district’s strategic plan, enhances the school district’s image, engages the community in the schools, builds public support for the school district, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Superintendent.

Essential Functions:Develops communication for the district which supports the Districts mission and goals and creates a positive image to stakeholders (parents, students, staff, community members and job applicants).
Collaborates across all departments and schools to ensure accurate and timely information.
Coordinates the communication of district programs, policies, and school board actions to employees and the public.
Develops, writes, edits, and facilitates the district’s internal and external communications, including district web pages, social media, newsletters, and press releases.
Develops, promotes, and supports the district’s brand and ensures that communications, both internal and external, align with it while promoting school pride.
Advises district leaders and other staff on strategies to effectively communicate district messages and relate effectively to diverse audiences.
Assists program leaders in communication efforts to address educational topics and decisions with their stakeholders using innovative strategies and sources.
Collaborates with students and family liaisons to ensure communications are available in languages other than English and formats other than print based on audience need.
Directs district website design and content. Coordinates with key stakeholders to ensure website content is up to date, accurate, and meets established standards.
Identifies opportunities for positive media coverage and develops publications, video, social media, web or communications to reach key audiences.
Directs and implements plans for social media forums. Advises staff on the use of social media in their professional work.
Develops ideas and marketing techniques for publications.
Assists Administrators and Principals in managing crisis situations and coordinating communication efforts related to the crises.
Plans and coordinates periodic polling of public opinion on current issues of strategic importance to the district to inform communications strategies.
Articulates annual performance goals of each building and district strategic plan and reports progress to the Superintendent and Board.
Attends and covers school board meetings to stay apprised of and communicate about Board discussions.
Continue education through classes, conferences, and memberships to professional organizations.
Serves as a member of the district’s leadership team; works closely with administration.
