Cultural Liaison

Effective immediately, the Human Resources Department is accepting online applications for the position of Cultural Liaison at our High School. This is a 9-month school year position; 7 hours per day.  The hourly rate of pay is $27.88 with excellent benefits.

Job Summary
Serve as a liaison between families and the schools to help sustain a trusting and supportive relationship, develop healthy and positive family attitudes toward academic success, and attendance at school.  Assist parents by responding to the needs of students and their families, providing information about locating resources and developing the skills necessary to advocate for their individual, family, and cultural needs within the school and community.

Job Functions

Translate and interpret (orally and written) school and district documents, including parent handbooks, newsletters, Individual Education Plans-IEPs, 504s, health plans, etc.)
Translate and interpret (orally and written) teacher documents, including newsletters, calendars, field trip information, events, etc.
Interpret (verbal) for teaching, health office and administrative staff regarding student progress, including behavior, grades, attendance, good news, events, etc.
Interpret during meetings, conferences and testing.
Coordinate interpretations services for conferences at building site twice per year.
Provide assistance to families and students as they enroll and participate in school including enrollment paperwork and checklists, food service applications, transportation, on-line support, and health concerns.
Provide home/site visits to better assess and understand the needs of each family.
Facilitate communication between students, parents, and school staff to develop healthy, positive family attitudes toward academic success, attendance at school, and student academic development.
Encourage parents to attend and be active in meetings and events.
Support parents in developing self-advocacy skills to voice their concerns, needs, strengths, opinions, and priorities.
Develop relationships and work cooperatively as a team member with all school staff to support students’ academic performance, achievement, attendance and/or behavior.
Seek solutions to attendance roadblocks in conjunction with Building Principal.
Advocate for educational equity for all students and families.
Work with principals and leadership teams to analyze school data, and to develop action plans to ensure educational equity for all students.
Work with principals and leadership teams to develop a positive building climate that leads to educational equity.
Assist in bridging connections between parents, schools, and other community agencies to provide appropriate services for students and families.
Attend monthly community resource information meetings regarding resources available in the community.
Other duties as assigned.

Long Term Sub-Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-to-2) Teacher

Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) provides special education services to 13 School Districts and 2 Charter Schools within five counties of southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona. HVED also has two (2) Setting IV Behavior Programs that provide programming for students in grades K-12 with challenging behaviors currently receiving special education services. The Setting IV Behavior Programs are located in Kellogg (SAIL) and Hokah (ACHIEVE). In addition, HVED provides programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (SPECTRUM). Our SPECTRUM program is located in Caledonia. Title: Long Term Sub-Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-to-2) Teacher 5/17/21-8/6/21

Position:  Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) is seeking a Long Term Substitute Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-to-2) Teacher to serve Birth-to-2 children and their families in Southeast Minnesota. This position primarily will serve Caledonia, Lewiston-Altura, Mabel-Canton, and Spring Grove.

Essential Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
Serve as case manager for children with disabilities, consult with parents, school personnel and others, and provide direct instruction and/or coordinate related services to identified children and families
Provide instruction and/or consultation in related services (occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech/language) as necessary
Develop Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP’s)
Perform all other duties and responsibilities in certification areas as directed by the supervisor.

Competencies:Must be able to work in team decision-making situations
Must communicate effectively with students, families, educators, and administrators regarding student programs and progress.
Must possess ability to problem-solve.
Must possess ability to lead teams and coordinate with others.
Travel Requirements:    Travel will occur between birth-3 family homes and/or daycare centers.
Qualifications:
Minnesota licensure as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
Must have a valid driver’s license
Experience as a B-3 and/or ECSE 3-5 Teacher preferred
Experience in coordinating early childhood services for children with disabilities and their families preferred
Experience with public health and social service organizations preferred
Experience working in a school or education setting is preferred but not required
Working Conditions:
Office, lifting, sitting, standing, pushing, pulling, keyboarding, etc.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities:

The essential functions include but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:

  • Serve as the school’s 504 Coordinator; follow a systematic process for implementing the school’s policies and procedures related to Section 504.
  • Facilitate Section 504 evaluations and the development and annual review of Section 504 plans for eligible students.
  • Distribute Section 504 plans to appropriate staff; monitor the implementation of Section 504 plans by staff.
  • Receive inquiries regarding Section 504 and respond in a timely manner.
  • Maintain records and documentation for all students eligible under Section 504.
  • Monitor and report on Section 504 compliance.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervising administrator and request assistance, as needed, to ensure Section 504 compliance.
  • Identify and facilitate counseling interventions to support developmental, preventative, and remedial needs of students in the school.
  • Participate in school based multidisciplinary team meetings that support student achievement and identify individual student intervention needs.
  • Participate in school decision making and activities which contribute to the effective operation of the school.
  • Accurately and appropriately utilize and interpret student data, as well as assist others to do so.
  • Consult and collaborate effectively with families, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources to address student needs.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and best practices established by local, state, and national associations and the school.
