Communications Support

Job Summary: 
Provide support for district wide internal and external communications that supports and aligns with the district’s strategic plan, enhances the school district’s image, engages the community in the schools and builds public support for the school district.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Very strong emphasis on written communications.
  • Organize, assimilate and disseminate facts about Shakopee Schools to the public through print and non-print media.
  • Provide professional guidance in the development of various publications (brochures, newsletters, information bulletins) by providing guidance on preparing or editing articles and other publications.
  • Plan, create and execute all internal and external communications including website, newsletters (print and electronic), marketing materials, advertising, crisis communications, social media, video productions, special events, and annual reports.
  • Advise and support Superintendent of Schools and other administrators, school board members and other staff members on effective communications.
  • Monitor overall district communications for quality, consistency of message and effectiveness.
  • Determine key messages and strategically distribute information through effective news releases.
  • Promote and support the district’s brand and ensure that communications align.
  • Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive matters.
  • Flexible work hours required at times.
  • Independent and remote work may be possible at times.

Qualifications: 

  • Exemplary writing skills with the ability to communicate respectfully, clearly and concisely, including generation of publications, articles, press releases, and correspondence.
  • BA degree in communications or a related field is preferred.
  • Three to four years’ related experience in written communications or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Skills in word processing, grammar/punctuation, text editing, document and presentation layout and production skills especially using MS Office Suite, photo editing, desktop publishing, graphic design, or other design software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, students, parents and the community, and to represent the district in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, set priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of best practice and current strategies and techniques in communications, public information and marketing, video production and social media.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of planning, layout, and editing of brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, and other publications.

EL Teacher 1.0 FTE – Jefferson Elementary

The ESL teacher will be working with students at the elementary level. The teacher will be providing English language development instruction to students who are emerging multilingual learners. The teacher will be working with students at various levels of English proficiency and in different instructional modalities. The teacher will be running basic language development classes for lower leveled students, and doing a combination of pushin and co-teaching for higher leveled students. The teacher is expected to collaborate with the grade level content teachers to support the development of multilingual learners in their most advantageous learning environment.

Job Description:
Perform a variety of specialized activities involved in the installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of systems software including locally and cloud hosted servers the software and applications reside on. Queries, manipulates and presents database information for end users through the creation of web based reports or shared electronic file. Connects application systems with focus on interoperability and data exchange. Administers assigned server hardware, virtual servers, operating systems, and application software. Provides training, assistance, data analysis and reporting for all district users. Provide technical software support and assistance to end users via remote help desk model.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology field with 2+ years systems administration and planning experience or any satisfactory combination of education and experience/training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties
Valid MN Driver’s License
