Mental Health Specialist
Reports to: Executive Director of Student Support and Engagement
Hours: 10 Month position- August 15-June 15
Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000/yr
Job Summary: Responsible for supporting and implementing the Mounds View School District’s Mental Health program.
Essential Functions:
Coordinates services from various outside agencies- HMOs, Corrections, Mental Health, Social Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, and Community health and mental health clinics that serve students.
Collaborates with outside agencies, for the provision of mentoring, case management, family liaison, etc.
Responsible for expanding on-site mental health services from outside clinics into Mounds View schools to assure that mental health services are available and easily accessible for diagnostic assessment and mental health treatment.
Oversee the professional development of staff.
Provide program planning and development, based on mental health needs assessment.
Ensure that students who have identified counseling needs receive appropriate services.
Provide in-service educational programming for parents about mental health topics, methods of obtaining advocacy for health and mental health services.
Support culturally specific parent outreach and advocacy.
Conduct data analysis of mental health information with the goal of establishing a needs assessment to tailor educational services based on student abilities and disabilities, and in establishing outcome data of interventions.
Knowledge and Skills:Thorough knowledge of the continuum of care; thorough knowledge of basic computer skills and related peripherals; thorough knowledge of community resources and intervention techniques;
Thorough knowledge of chemical health curriculum; thorough skill using basic hardware and software with regards to chemical health professionals;
thorough skill delivering instruction;
thorough skill acting as a liaison to internal and external resources;
thorough skill communicating verbally and in writing; thorough skill organizing work in a clear and understandable manner;
ability to research and implement educational information with regards to mental health; ability to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with external agencies, similar professionals, staff, students, and the general public.
