POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:    Elementary School Principal

Employee Group:  Administration

I.     Area of Responsibility:  To establish student learning and improved instructional practices as a top priority through leadership in planning, administering, and evaluating the educational program.

To plan, administer and regularly evaluate the elementary school system, including but not limited to direct and oversight accountability for the instructional program; supervision of all licensed and support staff; student services; facilities management; extra-curricular programming; compliance with established policies and regulations; effective allocation of approved financial and human resource; and establishing cooperative and collaborative community relations all in a manner consistent with the District’s vision, mission and values which set the benchmarks and expectations for educational excellence and integrity.

II.     Essential Functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
A.   Instructional Program
·      Provides leadership, facilitation, and supervision for organizational and instructional program delivery and improvement, including the determination of program goals and program assessment/evaluation consistent with the goals of the district.
·      Provides leadership related to the implementation, tracking, and evaluation of programming for special needs students.

B.    Staffing, Non-Instructional Programs and Services
·      Recommends for employment, assigns and supervises staff, and provides for staff participation in the provision of appropriate in-services for training and staff development consistent with district goals.
·      Evaluates and counsels licensed and support staff in a manner that establishes and reinforces a positive climate conducive to the teaching and learning and the best needs of current and future students.
·      Coordinates and effectively utilizes all District services and programs which affect operations of the school(s) for which the principal is accountable.
·      Manages the services of resource personnel and volunteer programs.
·      Oversees the provision of student services, health, safety and security programs for the building in accordance with district policy and procedure.
·      Implements and monitors systems and procedures, which ensure accurate student records, attendance accounting, and discipline protocols.

C.    Information and Data
·      Disseminates and interprets information relative to school and district programs; responds to written and verbal requests for information from students, parents, staff and the greater school community.
·      Encourages staff to promote positive public relations and sets the example and standards for collaboration and cooperation with the immediate and greater school communities served.

D.   Facilities and Operation
·      Oversees and co-supervises maintenance staff; monitors all operations related to the buildings and grounds for which the principal is accountable; and takes appropriate action to ensure a safe, healthful environment for the immediate school community.

E.    Fiscal Resources
·      Develops and administers approved budget(s) for the school; establishes appropriate fiscal controls and protocols to ensure timely and accurate accounting and inventory practices all in a manner that advances the district’s vision, mission, and values through effective and efficient allocations of available and approved resources.

F.    Development and Teamwork
·      Keeps current on the literature and best practices related to elementary school administration and education in general, taking initiatives to effect further training and development for individual and/or group opportunities.
·      Maintains active membership in an appropriate professional group.
·      Promotes and demonstrates the positive impact of teamwork and collaboration on advancing the district vision, mission, and values.
· Perform other job-related responsibilities as scheduled or requested.

G.   Ethics and Judgement
·      Applies exemplary judgment in every task.  Demonstrates an ability to arrange staff and students consistently.  Operates with integrity and models and applies appropriate boundaries for all staff and students.

H.  All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
