Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) provides special education services to 13 School Districts and 2 Charter Schools within five counties of southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona. HVED also has two (2) Setting IV Behavior Programs, Students Achieving Integrated Services (SAIL), that provide programming for students in grades K-12 with challenging behaviors currently receiving special education services. The SAIL programs are located in Kellogg (SAIL) and Hokah (SAIL II, opening in September 2020).  Along with the SAIL programs, HVED provides programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (SPECTRUM). Our SPECTRUM program is located in Caledonia. HVED is committed to providing the best services to staff, students, and member districts in southeast Minnesota. Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)
Location: Any member district location, student’s home, or childcare setting.

Position:
HVED is seeking a talented Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA). This position is full-time during the 9-month School Year.  If determined necessary, summer school programming may be available.  Serving the birth to three population, the SLPA’s professional calendar may be extended over the twelve-month calendar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Category of Responsibility:

Leadership Support serve as the first point of contact for principals seeking system level support related to teaching and learning serve as the link with elementary cluster leaders

Serve as liaison for site leader in accessing central office services as necessary

Work with DLTL HART, I2T2, and Community Engagement leaders; facilitate progress on priority results; assist with policy research and development

Category of Responsibility:

Athletics and Activities co-supervise (with high school principals) the District Activities Coordinators

Ensure community engagement in the activities program through the effective functioning of the Activities Program Advisory Council (APAC)

Facilitate program improvement including program evaluation, operational improvement, and staff development
resolve operational issues including clarifying protocols for all extracurricular contracts; ensuring that volunteers have background checks

Attend events

Category of Responsibility:

Safe, Healthy, and Responsive Learning Environmentserve as the first point of contact for all parent/guardian calls; work directly with principals to address reported concerns

Use data to maintain and improve district-wide systems related to student management

Train all site administrators and intervention specialists to provide system consistency

Reduce suspensions and expulsions; eliminate racial disparity

Category of Responsibility:

Act as substitute principal in the absence of a principal

Facilitate breakout sessions at Learning Leader

Facilitate communication to site leaders for system level coordinators and directors

Ensure balance among principals and principal perspective in the project development (ex. capital projects, emergency preparedness, enrollment projections, policy, performance appraisal processes, etc)
