Human Resources Specialist

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist is responsible for the delivery and implementation of employment programs and services and the maintenance, integrity, and security of applicable human resource data and records for staff under the following contracts: Lakeville Education Assistants Federation, Non-Licensed Instructors, Small Wonder Instructors, and Casual Employees.

  • Maintain accurate and current personnel data for assigned contracts in HRIS, staffing spreadsheet (including seniority lists with tenured and probationary status) and other databases.
  • Process all resignations and retirements for assigned contracts, including determining and distributing retirement severance pay. Manage the clerical layoff and recall process when needed.
  • Assist Directors and Principals in recruitment and hiring process for positions under assigned contracts, including creating job descriptions, posting positions online through application system, providing support with developing interview questions, and establishing salary placement for selected candidates. Creates contracts for new hires and maintains personnel files.
  • Conduct orientation for new hires throughout the year and maintain I-9 forms on hired staff under assigned contracts. Assist summer new teacher orientations with the HR Specialist.
  • Process background checks for all new employees, substitutes, and volunteers in the district.
  • Partner with supervisors to assist with evaluation process for staff in assigned contract groups.
  • Annually maintain list of eligible staff for the tax sheltered annuity matching funds using each contract’s eligibility requirements. Responsible for notifying payroll and union representative.
  • Participate in fiscal year-end in processes in the summer with entire HR department including moving staff in steps and lanes, updating salary schedules, and calendars in HRIS.
  • Assist Executive Director of Administrative Services and Assistant Director of Human Resources during contract negotiations for assigned contracts including research, reports, updating changes, and preparation of final contract for School Board approval
  • Conduct orientation for new hires throughout the year and maintain I-9 forms on hired staff under assigned contracts. Assist summer new teacher orientations with the HR Specialist.
  • Process state report “STAR” for all licensed and non-licensed personnel to ensure compliance with all licensure requirements.
  • Process unemployment information to Minnesota Department of Economic Security.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Human Resources with researching, developing, and implementing updated work methods to utilize technology and HRIS capabilities.
  • All members of Human Resources department will be cross-trained to provide surge support to team members.
  • Provide detailed and analytical information and reports as requested.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies on the district’s finance program and purchasing with the district charge card.
  • Assist with staff recognition activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Human Resources.

2019-20 Graduate Teaching Fellowships

Minnesota State University, Mankato

Openings are available for the Graduate Teaching Fellow Program (classroom experience while working on a masters degree program in Education).  Applicants must have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Teaching degree.

Seniors in a teacher education program who will complete all requirements for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Teaching degree, complete all required testing, and obtain appropriate Minnesota teacher licensure by August, 2019, or recent teacher education graduates (who have not held regular teaching appointments) are eligible to apply.  Application deadline:  April 5, 2019, or until filled.

Teaching Fellow positions are available in the following Professional Development School (PDS) participating districts:

6-12 English, Le Sueur-Henderson High School, Le Sueur-Henderson Public Schools

9-12 English/Language Arts, Mankato Area Public Schools
