DISTRICT INFORMATION:

The South Washington County School district includes four St. Paul suburbs of Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park and Woodbury as well as portions of three other communities.  Our district includes approximately 100,000 residents with 19,000 students enrolled in our schools. We have sixteen (K-5) elementary schools, four (6-8) middle schools, three (9-12) high schools and an alternative high school.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist the building principal in performing instructional leadership and management of the educational program to maximize student learning.   Assist with managing, evaluating and supervising effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of the school district.  This includes instructional programs, co-curricular activities, and student management systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations and emergency procedures.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the principal in the overall operation of the school and serve as a building instructional leader.
  • Support a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
  • Assist with developing and administering annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for all students.
  • Continually monitor student progress and outcomes.  Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with staff, students, parents and community members through all programs and activities.
  • Assist in preparing and managing budget for the building, maintain accurate budgetary records as required by district policies and procedures.
  • Support creating a high performing staff through effective hiring and evaluation systems.  Develop, coach, train, mentor and manage staff as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, school board policies and school district procedures.
  • Assist with supervising the instructional programs of the school on a regular basis to ensure the use of effective instructional strategies, content and materials consistent with research on learning, student growth and development.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages staff and students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
  • Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model.
  • Participate in professional development workshops, activities and seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Area Learning Center Coordinator

Faribault Public Schools is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time Area Learning Center Coordinator.  The successful candidate for this position will perform difficult professional work overseeing the staff and operations of Secondary (7-12) Alternate Education and Families in Transition (FIT) programs.  This position offers a 220 day per year contract and commences immediately upon hire.  In coordination with the Faribault High School, this candidate will develop, implement and carry out Area Learning Center (ALC) policies and procedures; develop a master schedule for school terms, independent study, targeted services and other ALC offerings. In addition, this candidate will develop and implement student discipline and attendance policies and programs that are consistent with district policy and the mission of the ALC. This candidate will supervise, hire, assign and evaluation all ALC staff. This position will begin with the with the start of the 2019/20 school year.

Faribault Public Schools is a rural Pre-K through Adult School District located about 50 miles south of the Twin-Cities. The school district currently serves approximately 3,700 students in Faribault and our surrounding areas within our community of 23,000 citizens within the city limits. District sites include one early childhood center, three elementary schools K-5, one middle school 6-8, one high school 9-12, one area learning center 9-12 and one education center for adult education.

Essential Functions:
Implements and administers board policies and local, state or federal laws to provide programming that meets the needs for alternative learning, targeted services, and families in transition.
Provides leadership, direction, supervision, mentoring and development opportunities to staff; recruits, interviews and makes recommendations on personnel actions.
Develop and monitor budget and programming that can be efficiently offered within the budget; seeks additional funds through grants and collaborations, generates and monitors program revenues and fees.
Plan and implement new program initiatives through needs assessments, research and collaboration with others to meet the needs of the community; formulates annual goals and objectives for new and existing programs and services.
Serve as a liaison for resources within the Faribault community and Rice County.
Work as a liaison and advocate for programming by giving presentations and working in collaboration with other similar agencies; represents the department at conferences and other meetings.
Collaborate and coordinate with high school, adult education, special education and EL department to create seamless graduation options for all students.
Collaborate and communicate with community education to design and deliver high quality targeted service options for all students after school and during summer.
Establish and keep various statistical data regarding the program and participants; coordinate data systems between community education and area learning center to identify and address achievement and opportunity gaps for all students.
Act as the district subject matter expert in trauma, equity, families in transition, restorative justice practices; advocate for students and families, train district staff on subjects.
Oversee and ensure accurate procedures are followed for assessments and screenings.
Create and maintain various promotional materials for distribution and marketing of the program into community.
