SUMMARY
Under general supervision, works closely with the Board of Education, Superintendent, General Counsel and other leadership positions to develop and manage cross-jurisdictional agendas, identify common interests, and develop collaborative relationships with other local government entities in support of Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
Master’s Degree in Education or Public Administration; AND four (4) years of professional public policy administration experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
Knowledge of:
Minnesota civil statutes, rules, administrative orders, policies and procedures, and applicable Federal rules and regulations governing public education.
MPS organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Principles and practices of public information, media relations and effective community outreach.
Current legislative, political, and economic trends in public education.
MPS administration policies, including accounting, budgeting, union contracts and personnel rules.
Professional standards for business correspondence, writing, spelling and grammar.
Principles and practices of effective customer service to internal and external constituencies.
Business and personal computers, and specialized software applications.
Principles of record keeping, records retention, records management, and file maintenance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.

Under general supervision, plans, administers, and directs K-12 and special programs for MPS including: AVID, Advanced Academics and Talent Development, Art, Physical Education and Health, Media, Instructional Technology, World Language, and PREP; continuously improves K-12 programs to accelerate improvement in student outcomes and integration of specialized content across all content areas.

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Academics and Leadership and in collaboration with the Chief of Academics and Leadership and the appropriate Associate Superintendents designs, develops, and implements the strategic agenda of the district and the department.
Designs, directs, and supports college readiness plans, programs and practices to grow the graduation rate and improve college acceptance and persistence rates.
Leads and mentors a cross-departmental team in order to facilitate integration, instructional design, collaboration, professional development, and technology into a coordinated structure.
Develops and executes team agendas and objectives for K-12 programming including culturally responsive and equitable practices for all students in MPS; develops pathways and instructional practices, integration, and innovative program options that increase student achievement.
Leads the work of elementary and secondary education, and collaborates with other department leads and principals to ensure alignment of K-12 program implementation, planning, monitoring, and shared leadership. Integrates diversity, inclusion, and equity into all aspects of the mission and culture of MPS.
Develops program goals and evaluation plans to effectively assess current programming and materials; determines plans for expansion and priorities.
Analyzes reports and provides communication to community and schools.
Prepares and administers budgets, prepares grant applications, and solicits funds to provide financial support for programs as needed.
Facilitates interagency planning and collaboration between the district, department and external partners to support expanded opportunities and/or improved outcomes for students; coordinates with community partners, grant funders, local and regional organizations involved with K-12 and special programming on behalf of MPS.
Manages assigned staff, and assigns tasks, programmatic responsibilities, and projects; evaluates performance, resolves workload and technical issues, and assures that goals are defined and achieved; develops staff skills and training plans, and conducts performance evaluations.
Maintains working relationship with other academic departments, K-12 principals, site leads, and the Board of Education to ensure information exchange and coordination of efforts.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, families, community members/partners and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
Superintendent of Schools Needed
Shakopee Public Schools in Shakopee, Minnesota is conducting a search for a new Superintendent of Schools. Our new leader needs to be a strong academic champion committed to the Academies of Shakopee, authentic learning, cultural competence, and education equity. Being responsible for 100 million dollar budget, she/he must have a deep understanding of school finance and successful experience building a fund balance and advocating for additional funding locally and at the legislature. This highly visible superintendent will have high integrity, lead with heart, exhibit strong communication skills, and be able to develop strong partnerships in the school district and community. She or he will be a strategic thinker and artful implementer. Previous superintendent experience preferred. A Minnesota superintendent’s license required.

The Personnel Committee of the School Board, with support from administration, will be reviewing candidates and conducting phone screens with all qualified candidates prior to the October 1, 2018 deadline. Once the posting is formally closed on October 1st, the Personnel Committee will determine if there are qualified candidates to move forward with interviews. If so, a hiring decision will be made in October, with start date determined by candidate availability. If we do not find candidates for a mid-year start, we will conduct a full search for a July 1, 2019 start (please note preference on your cover letter).
