Superintendent of Schools Needed

Shakopee Public Schools in Shakopee, Minnesota is conducting a search for a new Superintendent of Schools.  Our new leader needs to be a strong academic champion committed to the Academies of Shakopee, authentic learning, cultural competence, and education equity.  Being responsible for 100 million dollar budget, she/he must have a deep understanding of school finance and successful experience building a fund balance and advocating for additional funding locally and at the legislature.  This highly visible superintendent will have high integrity, lead with heart, exhibit strong communication skills, and be able to develop strong partnerships in the school district and community.  She or he will be a strategic thinker and artful implementer.  Previous superintendent experience preferred.   A Minnesota superintendent’s license required.

Independent School District #720 serves more than 8,000 students in Shakopee, Savage, Prior Lake, and the Jackson, Louisville, and Sand Creek Townships.  One of fastest growing suburbs in the Twin Cities, Shakopee is a vibrant friendly community that supports its schools.

An academic leader, Shakopee Public Schools has forged new ground in technology, community partnerships, and innovative programs that are cutting-edge nationally.  This is the inaugural year for the new addition to the high school and the implementation of the Academies of Shakopee, an instructional approach that encourages learning within the framework of real life careers.

Shakopee Public Schools is proud of its diversity with more than 70 languages and dialects from around the world spoken in its schools. As of the 2017-18 school year, our student population consists of 61% Caucasian, 13% Asian, 13% Hispanic/Latino, 11% Black/African American and 2% American Indian.

Application Process:

The Personnel Committee of the School Board, with support from administration, will be reviewing candidates and conducting phone screens with all qualified candidates prior to the October 1, 2018 deadline.  Once the posting is formally closed on October 1st, the Personnel Committee will determine if there are qualified candidates to move forward with interviews. If so, a hiring decision will be made in October, with start date determined by candidate availability.  If we do not find candidates for a mid-year start, we will conduct a full search for a July 1, 2019 start (please note preference on your cover letter).

The School Board understands the importance of confidentiality for all candidates prior to being a finalist for Superintendent for Shakopee Schools.  It will confirm a commitment from each finalist prior to publically identifying her or him.
