Job Summary:
Responsible for developing a new setting three program, preparing lessons, writing IEPs, conducting IEP meetings, instructing students with a wide range of abilities, assessing student learning, collecting and analyzing student data to plan instruction, creating an engaging and respectful classroom environment, communicating with students, parents and multiple stakeholders, maintaining accurate records, supervising students, managing paraprofessionals, scheduling, participating in school improvement initiatives, and learning professionally.
Essential Functions:
Provides instruction for students at the elementary level in a self-contained setting; prepares lesson plans to suit each students’ educational needs; provides academic support to students receiving special education services; provides instruction in language arts, math, social studies, science and social skills.
Serves as Case Manager; facilitates IEP meetings; writes and implements IEPs; evaluates each student’s academic and/or behavioral performance; writes progress reports as required.
Consults/collaborates with the administration, general education staff, special education personnel, parents, and outside agencies for the purpose of ensuring the appropriate delivery of services in adherence to due process requirements; contacts parents and/or guardians to discuss students’ progress.
Maintains student records; prepares reports and correspondence.
Essential Functions (continued):
Provides instructional support designed to ensure an effective and cohesive program; coordinates the placement of students with special needs into the mainstream setting; develops positive intervention plans that can be implemented across school settings.
Provides support for students with behavioral, social, emotional and mental health needs. Effectively uses de-escalation techniques and proactive behavior interventions to improve students behaviors.
Assists and administers District and State standardized testing; trains and directs paraprofessionals with program implementation and student support.
