This position will work 206 days per fiscal year under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning through the Secondary Teaching and Learning Coordinator. The District’s Organization White Bear Lake Area Schools is a progressive PreK-12 District of 8,700 students in the northeastern suburb of the city of St. Paul and is within twenty (20) minutes of the Twin Cities. The White Bear Lake Area school system consists of nine K-5 elementary buildings serving approximately 4,000 students. In addition to the elementary schools, the district has three early childhood centers, two middle schools (6-8), one high school with two campuses, an area learning center, and a transition education center. General Definition of Work Performs difficult professional work developing career pathway opportunities to support students to identify career opportunities in industries that provide promise for future job demand, sustainable wages, and potential for industry recognized credentials. By linking students to career focused courses and closing the opportunity gap of students completing college credit courses we will better prepare students to be contributing, independent adults. The career navigator will be an important contributor to this effort, providing leadership and support to students, teachers, and administrators who develop and maintain our career pathway programs. Specifically, this position will support our pathway areas in construction and manufacturing, and related work as apparent or assigned. Essential Functions -Maintains best practice knowledge of school career pathway development; serves as a knowledgeable resource for others in the development of school career pathways in construction and manufacturing. -Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and partnerships with multiple stakeholders including principals, teaching and learning team, pathway teachers, counselors, workforce development experts and employers. -Serves as a liaison to industry representatives to promote partnership opportunities for construction and manufacturing career pathway courses. -Monitors legislative changes and advocates for policy changes that can advance pathway work. -Represents the schools and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students. -Collaborates on the development of recruitment and marketing materials for the career pathways program. -Provides career counseling support to construction and manufacturing pathway participants by defining goals, monitoring progress, and creating plans for short and long term goal attainment. -Develops and maintains metrics to measure success and growth of career pathway programs. -Leads and promotes the student recruitment process at the middle school and high school levels for construction and manufacturing pathway courses. -Promotes the career pathway opportunities within the district and the community. -Monitors and supports students accessing college level courses for the first time. -Develops and manages the career pathway internship and experiential learning opportunities. -Works with administrators and department leaders to develop concurrent enrollment agreements with Century College and other institutions of higher learning. -Serves on the District’s World’s Best Workforce Committee and leads the Construction and Manufacturing subgroups of the WBLAS Career Pathway Advisory Committee. -Collaborates with other career counselors internally to create branding and consistency within the career pathway program.
