Courses taught may vary depending on the strength of the instructor and department. Successful candidates for this position will: enjoy working in a team environment; have experience working with students, particularly at the high school level; possess a high level of writing, speaking, listening and conflict resolution skills; possess a valid MN teaching license or demonstrate the ability to obtain such. Preference may be given to candidates with experience teaching Economics. Language Arts Teacher – High School

Activities Director

Description: The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and supervision in the organization and administration of all co-curricular activities which include athletic, non-athletic clubs, and fine arts programs for the secondary schools. The Activities Directors plans, coordinates and supervises the athletic and activities programs at the high school while implementing policies of the Rochester School Board, Minnesota State High School League, and Big 9 Conference. POSITION SUMMARY: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND SUPERVISE RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate school athletic programs: Supervise in the selection and development and dismissal of coaches, directors, advisors. Monitor staffing needs in each activity. Coordinate interview team and make recommendations to principals regarding employment and dismissal of coaches, directors, or advisors. Observe and mentor coaches, directors, and advisors as needed to affect best performance. Conduct pre-season mandatory head coach meetings. Conduct post season head coach/directors evaluation and make employment recommendations. Develops initiatives for alternative funding sources and marketing opportunities. Serves as the building liaison to the John Marshall High School Booster Club Meets Collaboratively and on a regular basis with eh other District High School Activity Directors and principals in order to provide fair and equitable programming across all three high schools Maintain communication with parents, coaches, advisors, and administration relative to the high school activity program. Communicate to the administration needs and problems of the activity program and submit recommendations relative to the program. Inform coaches, directors, and advisors of registration and eligibility procedures for student participants. Inform coaches, directors, and advisors of required rules interpretation meetings. Maintain open lines of communication with parents and address complaints. Scheduling of Fine Arts and athletic teams, transportation, and officials: Supervise scheduling of practices and facility usage. Supervise transportation arrangements. Schedule officials and judges. Supervise auditorium usage. Supervise coordination of facility use with Community Education. Game and Program Management: Responsible for supervision of all 9-12 co-curricular programs. Supervise workers schedule for all home events, including but not limited to, site managers, crowd supervision, officials, judges, press box, ticket sellers, ticket takers, P.A. person, scorer, timer, and chain gang. Work with directors of bands, cheerleaders, and dance lines in coordinating their activity Coordinate with Buildings and Grounds Department on preparation and maintenance of playing/practice fields, auditoriums, and other performance areas. Coordinate with the head custodian and Building and Grounds Supervisor to ensure all facilities are prepared for games, events, and performances. Supervise collection, deposit, and accounts of gate receipts and season tickets. Coordinate and supervise home or as needed away events. Establish tournament expense budget and supervise housing, food, and transportation arrangements School-Parent-Community Relations and Awards: Collaborate with media and Director of Communications on students and staff of co-curricular activities. Maintain John Marshall website Collaborate with community groups in best interest of student activities. Supervise preparation of athletic, fine art, and student activity awards, records, and recognition. Conduct fall, winter, and spring parent/athlete/coach meetings. Records: Supervise all purchases. Supervise all budget transactions according to district policy and procedures. Coaching clinics. Supervise all results, conference standings, coaches, captains in all varsity activities. Supervise activity budget. Supervise all awards earned by students. Additional duties and Responsibilities: Reports to and is accountable to the High School Principal Consults, recommends, and advises building principals regarding activities. Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages staff and students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students. 12. Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model. 13. Participate in professional development workshops, activities and seminars. 14. Perform other duties as assigned.
