Mankato Area Public Schools has a position available for an Assistant Director of Special Education beginning July 1, 2024.  This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Summary of Duties:
Assist in providing leadership in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the District’s special education programs and services. Serve as the site supervisor in locations where there is not an onsite principal. Evaluate the performance of licensed and non-licensed personnel. In the absence of or when directed by the Director of Special Education and Student Issues, assumes the special education director role and responsibilities.

Qualifications Required: A Masters degree in Special Education Instruction or related special education field.
A valid Minnesota Director of Special Education license
Minimum of three (3) years of teaching or supervisory experience
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Other Information:
This is a Non-affiliated position with Category III benefits. See attached job description.

Salary:
$116,200 – 119,100

Student Support Services Supervisor

Mankato Area Public Schools has a position available for a Student Support Services Supervisor beginning July 1,2024.  This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Summary of Duties:
The Supervisor will assist the Student Support Services Department in a variety of tasks that support the daily functioning of the department such as, but not limited to, ESY, PLCs, due process, assessments, curriculum, serving as district representative at IEP meetings and mentoring/coaching.

Qualifications Required:
Director of Special Education License or currently and/or willing to enter in a program working towards licensure.

Other Information:
This is a Non-affiliated position with Category III benefits.

Salary:
$94,400 – 96,800

Co-Leader of Learning, Teaching, and Equity (Assistant Director–Secondary)

Description:
In partnership with the Co-Leader of Learning, Teaching, and Equity (E-5), provide leadership and oversight for the entire Department of Learning, Teaching, and Equity. Each of the two Co-Leader positions are Cabinet Level positions that report directly to the Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent.

The primary responsibility for the person in this position is to develop or improve all the systemic structures that impact the student learning experience in Shakopee Public Schools. It is the moral imperative of our school district to change until all of our systems measurably work for each and every student. Our focus must be on ensuring each member of our organization maintains high expectations and unwavering support for each of our student learners. It is also our responsibility to make sure each and every student receives high quality core instruction and develops agency when it comes to their own learning.

Job Summary:

Instructional Leadership

  • Co-lead and co-supervise all members of the Learning, Teaching & Equity (LTE) team.
  • Ensure each and every student in our district reaches their greatest individual learning potential.
  • Ensure cultural responsiveness is woven into the fabric of all actions and work being done by the LTE team.
  • Work in true collaboration with other district and building leaders.
  • Ensure the LTE team works well in true collaboration with other departments, such as Special Services, Instructional Technology, Communications, etc.
  • Represent the school district and LTE team as appropriate with members of the community, teachers, and other staff.
  • Manage and lead a highly impactful and continually improving system of student learning.
    Oversee the continued growth and development for members of the LTE team in evidence-based practices and current educational research.
  • Oversee a robust and impactful multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) replete with best practices in applying learning protocols via a timely system of intervention.
  • Manage and align resources in terms of prioritization of the district’s Vision & Priorities and LTE’s most desired outcomes.
  • Direct systems for collecting and analyzing data, by grade or content, building and district, in order to foster immediate and impactful improvement of teacher instruction, increasing student learning performance outcomes.
  • Ensure coordination of efforts between staff development, technology,  curriculum, instruction, assessment, and learning practices.
  • High degree of organization and flexibility, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, skilled at setting priorities and coordinating activities; adaptable to changes while still meeting deadlines.

 

Professional Development Leadership

  • Direct the development and implementation of a comprehensive training and educational plan that is aligned with the district Vision & Priorities.
  • Create system wide learning expectations for all training and educational programs.
  • Collaborate with other team members, principals and departments in planning professional development.
  • Support the design and delivery of new teacher and new to district induction programs.
  • Attend meetings, in-services and workshops as needed
  • Foster participation and maintain active memberships in appropriate professional organizations.

Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team (Cabinet)

  • Works in partnership with the other members of this team to achieve the specific outcomes contained in the district’s Vision & Priorities.
  • Assists with or leads the implementation of district-wide initiatives.
  • Participates on councils, committees and task forces representing the school, the department, and the school district.
  • Proven ability to craft and deliver effective presentations and high-quality reports, draft policies/procedures and produce publications

Budget

  • Monitor program budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities to ensure that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed
  • Seeks grants for curriculum, professional development, and instruction.
  • Co-develops and monitors the Learning, Teaching & Equity budget, as well as federal budgets, in coordination with the Business Manager.
  • Approves budget expenditures related to Learning, Teaching & Equity.

Communicates with stakeholders

  • Communicates effectively.
  • Validate, affirm, build and bridge.
  • Strong conflict and problem resolution skills.

Coordinates and supervises state and federal programs in district

  •  Advises superintendent and other administrators regarding academic standards requirements, federal and state academic mandates, assessment requirements, and related policies and procedures impacting the district. Examples include American Indian Education, gifted and talented programming, nonpublic schools, homeless programming, professional development and teacher licensing.

WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:

Education/Certification Requirement:

  • Master’s Degree, or learning/experience equivalent, in educational leadership or a related field
  • Administrative license and/or Specialist Certificate preferred.

Experience:

  • Teaching experience, preferably in grades 6-12.
  • Administrative/leadership experience, preferably in grades 6-12.

Essential Skills Required to Perform the Work:

  • Demonstrated leadership in building quality systems and programs designed to provide each and every student with opportunities to engage in high quality learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrated leadership in providing oversight to educational systems that ensure each and every student receives a quality assessment that fosters agency and self-directed learning.
  • Knowledge of evidence based practices and up-to-date research findings.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation research.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Keen awareness of culturally responsive practices and a demonstrated ability to effectively incorporate equity into decisions and actions.
  • Ability to lead and coach the adult members of the LTE team to consistently higher levels of performance over time.
  • Ability to effectively plan and direct annual district-wide learning plans and implementation efforts.
  • Ability to analyze assessment measures to improve future learning outcomes with a continued focus on improving educational outcomes for each and every learner.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal/national learning standards.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal policy and laws relating to education.
  • Knowledge of all learning programs typically found in a suburban Minnesota school district.

  • participate in 3rd party billing, as directed;
  • uphold confidentiality at all times regarding students and staff; and
  • work under the direction of the Lead Nurse.

  • constructively communicating with parent/guardian and team members.

Qualifications:

  • A current Minnesota Special Education Teaching License in ASD or ABS
