Description:  To inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by providing specialized clerical and technical duties related to the assignment or placement, as well as related responsibilities requiring creative solutions to specialized site/department needs. Answer correspondence and assemble highly confidential and sensitive information. Interact with a diverse group of external customers as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, organize and carry out a diversified workload, and make recommendations for changes in office practices or procedures.

Responsibilities and tasks include:

Customer Service:

Delivering customer service that embodies the District mission
Assisting site/department leaders with communications
Acting as liaison between parent(s), student(s), guardian(s), community and site/department staff
Communicating and coordinating services with internal and external vendors to ensure adequate service to our school system

General Office:     Performing general office duties such as typing, filing, copying, faxing
Attending meetings and recording meeting minutes as requested
Scheduling and preparing materials, rooms and sites for meetings, events and/or conferences
Creating, updating and maintaining handbooks and manuals
Developing and distributing communications to site/department and internal and/or external vendors
Maintaining site/department and/or supervisor’s calendar

Records:     Scanning and/or retrieving information located on the system’s network
Creating and/or entering data into spreadsheets and/or databases
Maintaining student and staff records (e.g. student grades, absences, class changes)

Events:     Assisting with the planning and coordination of site and/or departmental events as needed (e.g. graduations, awards ceremonies, student orientations)
Supporting site/department conferences, meetings and special events

Organizational Management:     Coordinating work direction for special projects/assignments
Arranging coverage due to absence, special meetings or events

Health and Safety:.     Maintaining a safe environment for students
Issuing leave/appointment passes/partial absence slips to students
Facilitating communication between building leaders/staff to alert about emergency situations
Monitoring and assisting drills and evacuations

Performing other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.Minimum qualifications include:

High school diploma or GED.

Preferred qualifications:

Prior related secretarial/clerical work experience desired.
Prior customer service and Microsoft Office experience required.
Experience in an education setting preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

Understanding of data entry concepts.
Knowledge of spreadsheet and database management software and word processing skills.
Fundamentals of general office and general administrative procedures and operational requirements.
Understanding of office equipment and typical productivity software, databases or customized systems/applications.
Knowledge of basic record retention, record/file/database maintenance requirements.
Understanding of data privacy requirements, confidentiality, laws and rules as it pertains to job assignments.
Skilled in:     The attributes of an efficacious learner: resourceful, self-directed, responsible, problem solver and skilled communicator.
The ability to collaboratively solve problems.
The ability to work in an organized, efficient, and process-oriented manner.

SUMMARY

Provide quality instruction aligned to the state and national standards. Use a variety of assessment strategies – diagnostic, formative and summative, to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning. Rigorous inquiry-based learning tasks engage students in deep content of the discipline as well as the habits of scholarship. May be required to work as a member of the campus STEM team to ensure quality integrated instruction across disciplines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Have a working knowledge of and implement the Minnesota State Standards and the District Graduation Requirements; knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students’ learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.

* Teach students the required curricula using strategies that foster thinking, reasoning and problem solving.

* Collaborate with peers to develop, plan and implement best practices based on the needs/abilities of the students.

* Assess students’ developmental, cognitive and social needs and provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs.

* Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful and interesting as well as multicultural/gender and ability fair/developmentally appropriate.

* Collaborate and communicate regularly with families in making educational decisions and use family and community resources to support learning.

Acquire knowledge of the goals of the Minneapolis Public School District Improvement Agenda and site/school goals. Work to support and achieve those goals.

* Assess own instructional effectiveness through the Professional Development Process (PDP). Participate in ongoing and regular staff, team and individual professional development.

Education and Experience Guidelines

* Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.

* Prior successful experience student teaching or teaching in an urban, multicultural education setting.

* Demonstrated continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration and/or job-embedded staff development.

* Master’s or PhD preferred.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Early Childhood Teacher

Job Description: A 1.0 FTE Long-term Substitute Early Childhood teacher position for Falcon’s Nest Preschool, a Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten site at Roosevelt Elementary School.  Qualified candidates will offer a developmentally appropriate learning environment, with the focus on cognitive, social/emotional, language, literacy, and physical/motor development of students.  This teacher will also work with a classroom paraprofessional to create a warm welcoming environment for parents and children. The position is 5 days a week from 7:30AM-3:30PM. This position commences on November 29th, 2023 to approximately February 20th, 2024. Falcon’s Nest Preschool is a part of the Minnesota Centers of Excellence Pyramid Model Innovation Grant.  Applicants with knowledge and experience in a multi-tiered system of support for young learners are preferred.
