Position Overview:

1.0 FTE Special Education teaching position to work with students with Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD) at Centerview Elementary School, grades K-4.

Primary Responsibilities:

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to…

  • creating and delivering ability and age appropriate lessons in a setting 3 classroom;
  • leading a team of paraprofessionals in meeting students’ needs;
  • communicating with parents to provide regular updates on student successes and challenges;
  • collaborating with principals, special education coordinator and staff, and professional learning communities, to ensure student needs are being met;
  • maintain student records of services provided, following Due Process best practices and compliance;
  • acting as a Case Manager for students in your classroom and participate in IEP and evaluation summary meetings; and
  • perform other related duties, as assigned.

Experience: 

Desired previous experience/knowledge includes…

  • successfully working with students with Emotional Behavior Disorders (EBD) and a strong desire to do so;
  • writing solid Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs);
  • applying current trends in the field of behavior interventions and support;
  • utilizing standardized assessment tools;
  • effectively collaborating with a team; and
  • constructively communicating with parent/guardian and team members.

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet these qualifications…A current Minnesota Special Education Teaching License in EBD or ABS.
The ability to lift up to 50 pounds (and/or up to adult-size body weight with two-to-three-person lift).

CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (COTA)

English Learner (EL) Program Coordinator (8 hours per day; 12 months per year)

Media or Visual Arts Teacher – 0.5 FTE

Position is a part-time, part of the teacher bargaining unit and based at Mahtomedi Middle School.  Salary and benefits part of Master Agreement

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a valid MN Middle School Media Arts or Visual Arts license, or able to obtain the appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board, and/or equivalent LETRS training.

Qualifications:

  • The Media Arts Teacher must possess strong computer skills and be able to collaborate with other content areas to support arts-integration as well as ensure students are exposed to diverse areas of the media arts and the importance of digital citizenship and copyright laws and regulations.
  • The Media Arts Teacher must be knowledgeable in the use of current and emerging technologies to create photographs, video, audio, computer arts, digital arts, and interactive media for communication. As well as the use of elements of space, time, light, color, motion, and sound to express perspectives and ideas.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to build relationships with students, colleagues, and community
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents and staff

  • Identify the needs of students through formal and informal assessments
  • Plan, develop and implement appropriate lessons to ensure the achievement of student growth
  • Communicate with students, parents and staff on regular basis on student progress
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Foster a community where all people are valued, respected, seen and heard
  • Inspire robust academics, critical and creative thinking and continuous personal growth
  • Create world-class learning experiences that integrate multiple perspectives
  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
  • Attend department, school and parent meetings or functions
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Special Education Teacher – High School (1.0 FTE)

Job Summary:
The certified SpEd teacher works with parents and regular education teachers to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs designed to support the growth of special education students.  The teacher also develops lesson plans, conducts classroom instruction, evaluates, and assesses both instructional material and student performance. The special education teacher interprets student progress and routinely communicates with parents and the IEP team to share student progress toward their goals, as well as strengths, weaknesses, and/or programs.
