School Counselor position is available at Scandia Elementary School to develop, implement & manage school counseling programs, work with students grades K-6 in individual, small group and classroom settings and working with families, problem solving situations. The ability to listen and communicate well is a must.
Summary of Job Duties: The Middle School Principal serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of the school, planning and directing the instruction programs by ensuring the curriculum, instruction, strategies and assessment of student progress are coherent components in the teaching and learning process, administering school buildings and grounds operations, participating in staff, student and community activities, organizing, directing, evaluating and supervising assigned certified and classified staff, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Essential Functions: Provide leadership in the development of the learning program; communicate with teachers to assure instructional programs are meeting the needs of the students and district.
Provide leadership in the development of the organizational pattern, curriculum and instructional program located at the school site.
Creates and maintains the health, safety and welfare of students, staff and parents; administers discipline in accordance with district policies within building and grounds.
Provide supervision and conduct evaluation of school district employees assigned to the school site.
Participate and contribute to district level administration; serves as a communication link between site and district
Supervise student assessment, placement, behavior and attendance.
Plan and direct the business operations of the site.
In cooperation with teachers, formulate and maintain a staff development plan that addresses the needs of the school site.
Facilitate parent, student and/or staff advisory groups.
Facilitate communication between school and home to promote parent involvement in the educational programs.
Facilitate external relationship building by developing programming that addresses specific and unique needs of local students.
Attend all regular board meetings to represent the building and grounds for the district.
Position is full-time, part of the teacher bargaining unit and based at the Mahtomedi High School. Salary and benefits part of Master Agreement

Job Summary
Facilitates utilization of evidence-based and positive behavior practices that help student develop; support programmatic changes and individual approaches to student behavior, and assist staff in developing individualized interventions. Designs and maintains behavioral support systems in the building. Promotes a positive behavioral support mindset with staff and students.
Job Functions
Develop equitable systems by leading positive behavior programs and strategies such as Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) initiatives, BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Innocent Classroom, and de-escalation techniques.
Develop interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
Develop procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
Communicate with appropriate teachers and other district staff personnel as necessary on behavior matters.
Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, staff, families and community members.
Actively participate in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes and maintain behavioral charting data.
Provide work direction and guidance to Student Behavior Assistants on strategies to address student behaviors, de-escalating techniques, and re-integrating students back into the classroom.
Provide behavioral assistance to families as requested by the principal, teacher, or district staff.
Conduct workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally or emotionally challenged students in alignment with district programs.
Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
Implement classroom management system as applicable.
Adhere to district policies and procedures.
Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.

This is accomplished through planning and preparation, maintaining an educational environment, teaching academic and life skills, and providing professional responsibilities to our staff, students, and parents.
Job Functions

Introduce Career Exploration topics.

Attend student, staff and parent meetings as deemed appropriate.
Assist the school assessment coordinator as needed, organize and administer MCA, ACT, and NWEA assessments and use data for future course enrollment and offerings.
Collect and analyze data to evaluate the success of student guidance, counseling and career development plans.
Consult and coordinate with staff, parents, and community resources.
Assist in implementing on-site crisis intervention/management plans.
Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
Monitors student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions.
Create a system to address academic needs and tracking of student credits through graduation.
Knowledge and understanding of the IB Program from course scheduling to testing options for students.
Encourage parent and community involvement.
Other duties as assigned.
This is a full time position at Bemidji High School to begin in the 2022-2023 school year.
