DescriptionThe Department of Doctoral Studies in Education welcomes applications for a tenure track position to include the responsibilities of Department Chair overseeing both the Educational Doctorate and Educational Specialist programs. We desire for the successful candidate to begin August 1, 2022 to provide for a successful transition for the department. Applications will be reviewed beginning June 15, 2022. The search will continue until the position is filled. 

The Department Chair is a member of the University faculty and serves as the administrative and academic leader of the department. The Chair carries out the mission, vision, and goals of the University through the implementation of the department’s strategic plan, and actions. 

The Chair is a year-round administrator and is a faculty member with teaching workload. The Chair is responsible for leading the faculty, staff, and students in the department; teaching in the Educational Doctorate program; serving on dissertation committees; and has a commitment to scholarship and service to the Church and the community. The Chair enacts strategies to address anticipated enrollment growth in the Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) and Educational Doctorate (Ed.D.) programs. 

Education and Experience

Carlton South Terrace Elementary Principal

Elementary Principal: South Terrace Elementary.  (85-90% FTE) Approximately 200 students in grades K-5.  District level duties at the MS/HS  (10-15% FTE) – weekly CST meetings, some IEP meetings and staff evaluations.

Required Qualifications:  MN K-12 administrative license.

Preferred: At least five years of administrative and teaching experience combined, or teaching leadership experience.

Experience with establishing a safe, focused and supportive school climate.

Ensure instruction and curriculum are culturally relevant and engaging.  Demonstrates ability to lead change, have courageous conversations, resolve conflicts, commitment to implementing data-informed decisions.

Experience with differentiated instruction and MTSS interventions.

Instructional observations and evaluations.

Create and sustain a positive climate and culture that inspires a shared sense of community built on trust, collaboration, and safety.

Manage the operational functions of the school.

Supervise all certified and non-certified personnel.

Create and sustain family and community engagement with the school community.

Demonstrated leadership in implementing effective Reading Instruction.

Strong understanding of special education.

Excellent public relations, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Create high levels of trust and engagement from all stakeholders by seeking out and valuing input from community members.

Promote a positive image of the school, students, and district in the community and state by supporting and modeling the District Mission and Core Values.

Carlton is ideally located 20 miles south of Duluth near Jay Cooke State Park, and has an abundance of trails for biking, hiking and snowmobiling, easy access to kayaking on the St. Louis River and more.
