Summary of Duties:

Salary Range:
$49,591 – $88,577 (based on the MTA salary schedule).

Academic Learning Specialist

WCED Special Education Supervisor

In addition to supporting our member districts in all aspects of special education, including early childhood special education services for birth to three-year-olds, we operate three alternative educational programs:

  • SAIL – A transition program for students aged 18-22 with disabilities, located in Paynesville.
  • WCED ALC – An alternative junior/senior high school serving both general and special education students, located in Melrose.
  • Beacon – A federal setting IV special education program for students with behavioral needs, also located in Melrose.

Position Overview

The Special Education Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and support to special education programs across WCED’s four member school districts. This position plays a key role in shaping special education services, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and supporting the implementation of best practices. The supervisor will collaborate with district administrators, educators, and families to improve student outcomes and enhance program effectiveness.

This position reports to the Executive Director and will work closely with another experienced supervisor. The role will involve traveling to member districts to provide direct support while maintaining a home base at the WCED office in Melrose.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state special education laws
  • Monitor and support the implementation of due process across districts.
  • Provide guidance on policies, procedures, and best practices related to special education services.
  • Assist districts with state and federal reporting requirements, including data collection and submission.

Program Support & Instructional Leadership

  • Support schools in implementing inclusive practices, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and evidence-based interventions.
  • Collaborate with educators and administrators to develop and refine special education programs that meet diverse student needs.
  • Assist with curriculum modifications, instructional strategies, and accommodations to support students with disabilities.
  • Support districts in the implementation of assistive technology and adaptive resources.

Professional Development & Coaching

  • Design and deliver professional development for teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to special education teachers and case managers.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with district administrators, school psychologists, social workers, and related service providers.
  • Participate in IEP, manifestation determination, conciliation, and other student support meetings as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with staffing and recruitment of special education personnel.
  • Support districts in managing disputes, due process procedures, and parent concerns.
  • Stay current with research and trends in special education and disseminate relevant updates to district teams.

Position Details

  • Start Date of July 1, 2025
  • Work Schedule of 205 days per year
  • Location: Based in Melrose, MN, with regular travel to Albany/Avon, Melrose, Paynesville, and Sauk Centre
  • Salary Range: $90,000-110,000 dependent on experience

Middle School Choir Teacher

2) The successful candidate will also responsibility for Business Management (the district will continue to utilize a business management service for payroll, AR, AP, etc.). Licensure as a Business Manager is not necessary, but will be highly valued in the search.
