SALARY/CONTRACT:  The current superintendent’s salary for the 2021-2022 school year is $134,940. The final salary will be negotiated commensurate with experience and qualifications. The contract length is negotiable as provided in Minnesota statute.

Job Summary

Reporting to a 10-member board, appointed by the governor, specifically to the board-elected chair, the executive director serves as the chief administrative officer of the Minnesota State Board of School Administrators (BOSA) and is responsible for performing the executive duties of the board as outlined in Minnesota Statute 122A.14 and Minnesota Rule 3512.

The executive director will:

  • effectively manage the office of executive director
  • manage, resolve and enforce the laws and rules pertaining to administrative licensure
  • manage the planning, policymaking and rule-making functions of the board
  • oversee compliance requirements of state agencies, i.e., Attorney General, Dept. of Administration, MMB, MNIT, PELSB, MDE
  • assess and collect the legislatively-mandated annual fee
  • direct legislative and executive branch relations
  • provide assistance to Minnesota’s 14 university administrative preparation programs. Responsible for coordinating the board’s five-year review process.
  • review and approve the professional development activities of Minnesota’s  administrators
  • develop, promote and sustain BOSA’s positive reputation and relationships
  • gather and analyze legislatively mandated data and report findings to the legislature

The Executive Director will be the BOSA liaison with the following professional associations:

  • Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA)
  • Education Minnesota
  • Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD)
  • Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA)
  • Minnesota Association of School Administrators      (MASA)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in education administration, public administration or related field

and 3 years administrative experience in an educational setting or governmental entity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of administrative education, licensure systems, trends and issues in administrative preparation and licensing
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships with education stakeholder groups
  • Experience working with or serving on an educational board
  • Experience working with state and local governments
  • Experience managing organizations
  • Experience supervising employees
