Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Facilities Operations supports the district’s mission to inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams, contribute to their community, and engage in a lifetime of learning by providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of all facilities services. This position directs daily operations, guides long-term planning, and ensures efficient, safe, and compliant management of district buildings and grounds. The Assistant Director collaborates with internal departments and external partners to implement district-wide facilities initiatives, support educational environments, and make system-level decisions that align with the district’s goals and priorities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Provides strategic leadership for facilities operations, aligning practices with district goals and long-term planning. (30%)

Develops leadership capacity by establishing professional growth goals for department staff.
Identifies department performance deficiencies through stakeholder feedback and directs corrective training and SOP development.
Selects and manages external consultants to assess staffing levels against industry standards.
Provides recommendations regarding service delivery models, staffing needs, and operational improvements.
Oversees recruitment and hiring practices in collaboration with HR and Labor Relations to ensure legal compliance and alignment with strategic goals.
Assists in the planning, coordination, and execution of owner-managed long-term facilities maintenance (LTFM) projects.
Assists in developing and managing the facilities operations budget to support strategic objectives.
Serves on the LTFM Steering Committee with internal and external stakeholders.
Serves as liaison for Teamster negotiations and collaborates with labor relations on contract terms.
Provides operational input and project management support for long-range facilities planning initiatives.
Coordinates with construction consultants to ensure alignment with district priorities and timely completion.
Provides leadership in performance management, continuous improvement, and accountability for staff and partners. (25%)

Provides guidance and feedback to department leaders through evaluations focused on continuous improvement.
Engages consultants to benchmark practices and lead training initiatives to improve service models.
Leads a team of coordinators, delegating responsibilities and establishing standard procedures.
Monitors performance assessments to ensure alignment with department and system-wide objectives.
Evaluates consultants and engineers, providing feedback to directors and senior firm leadership.
Manages external contractors and collaborates with Purchasing to ensure quality procurement.
Oversees project managers and communicates assessment results to leadership committees.
Demonstrates management expertise through budget oversight, standards development, compliance, and capital project leadership. (25%)

Directs day-to-day facilities operations, ensuring efficient and effective maintenance, custodial, grounds, and ice arena services.
Assists with the development, monitoring, and administration of department budgets while ensuring accountability for expenditures.
Monitors spending trends and collaborates with Finance and Operations to adjust projections and align with long-range plans.
Develops operational standards through engagement with industry networks and consultants.
Provides recommendations for operational adjustments in collaboration with HR and Facilities leadership.
Evaluates operational staffing needs and provides recommendations regarding staffing levels and resource allocation.
Assists in capital acquisition planning and communicating needs to long-range planning groups.
Ensures regulatory compliance through coordination with agencies such as OSHA and EPA.
Collaborates with the Health and Safety team to develop procedures for compliance and safety initiatives.
Leads continuous improvement and problem-solving strategies.
Establishes system-wide equipment standards in partnership with engineers and trades staff.
Manages in-house restoration projects from scope and design through contract closeout and documentation.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills to foster trust and teamwork. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent years of experience) in Facilities Operations Management, Business Administration, Occupational Health/Safety, Engineering/Construction, or a related field.
Five (5) years of relevant work experience, including supervisory and/or leadership roles.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field.
Substantial experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Experience in a K-12 school environment with multiple facilities.
Chief Boilers License.
Certified Pool Operator License.
Hiring Range: Pay Grade 121, $143,654 to $167,357 annually

Work Environment and Physical Demands

 

Light to Medium Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves frequent sitting, walking, standing, talking, hearing, and the use of hands to operate computers, tools, and standard office equipment. The employee may occasionally stoop, crouch, climb stairs or ladders, and reach with hands and arms. Visual acuity is required for reading, inspecting facilities, interpreting technical plans, and performing administrative and supervisory tasks with accuracy. The role occasionally requires mobility through confined spaces such as pipe tunnels and frequent movement across varied indoor and outdoor work sites.

 

Work is performed in both standard office settings and active facilities or construction environments. The position requires routine travel to district buildings and project sites, including areas with potential exposure to hazardous materials, such as asbestos abatement zones, and construction-related risks. Safety equipment and adherence to OSHA and district safety protocols are required. Tasks may be performed in mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawl spaces, or other physically demanding and non-climate-controlled environments. While administrative duties occur in climate-controlled offices, the role demands flexibility to adapt between office and field conditions, manage competing deadlines, and engage with diverse stakeholders across the district.

Job Summary: A Student Management Specialist uses restorative practices to build and maintain relationships between students, teachers, and parents. Responsibilities:

Support Summer Kidstop K-5 programs and youth.

Assess the health and developmental status of the youth through district health screening programs.  Facilitate referrals to health care agencies or facilities when requested
Promote and maintain health and well-being of youth, families and school personnel by health teaching and health counseling.
Develop Individual Health/Emergency plans for youth with special needs.  Communicate with families, staff, youth regarding the development and implementation of these plans.  Periodically evaluate plans and revise as necessary.
Prevent and control communicable disease through health status and implementation of the state immunization laws
Collaborate, document and share information as needed with stakeholders including other nurses, families, site staff and personnel.
When required, participate in staffing regarding youth with special needs and assume responsibility for contributions to the health component of the IEP (Individual Education Plan)
Maintain health records on all youth registered in summer programs.
Excuse or readmit youth for health reasons in accordance with the building procedure and county health department exclusion guidelines.
Complete accident report forms for youth needing doctor’s attention and/or resulting in a loss of program time.
Train and supervise volunteers/staff on any areas as needed.
Attend site events and/or field trips to support and assist youth.
Serve as a resource to staff for health education purposes.
Work collaboratively with other community education or district summer programs.
Dedicate to creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment to all families, scholars, and staff regardless of abilities, ethnicities, genders and religious beliefs.

Support and lead recruitment and retention strategies

Background checks are conducted upon receiving a conditional offer. Employees must complete a background check and are responsible for the background fee. A passing background is required.  Criminal convictions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
