POSITION GOAL
To provide leadership, general supervision, and coordination to the operation of Health and Safety programs within the Buildings and Grounds Department in an efficient, cost-effective manner with a primary focus on the needs of the people served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

-Exercise leadership in Buildings & Grounds operations, with special emphasis on Health and Safety.
-Ensure compliance with building, fire, electric, and life safety codes along with federal, state, county, or local regulations, including board policy.
-Serve as district OSHA contact and complete required annual OSHA reports.
-Provide budget and payroll support to the Buildings & Grounds department.
-Provide annual training for right to know, OSHA, and other health and safety topics.

JUDGMENT REQUIRED

-Ability to determine, prioritize, schedule and complete complex job assignments and projects without supervision and within the time allocated.
-Ability to operate independently and effectively while following established procedures and protocols. Ability to anticipate and/or recognize problems and/or complications and to determine and implement practical corrective solutions to problems and issues.
-Ability to communicate appropriately with individuals regardless of socioeconomic status or intellectual capacity.
-Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills when completing unique or complex job assignments.
-Ability to determine what is confidential and proprietary information and how to use that information in a proper manner.
-Ability to communicate positively about the school district at all times.

WORKING CONDITIONS

-Perform under normal office conditions where there are minimal negative environmental factors.
-Perform within low to moderate noise levels with frequent interruptions caused by normal office traffic.
-Perform at moderate to high pace for extended periods of time.
-Perform within an environment of professionalism, proficiency, and precision.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Health and Safety Leadership

-Stay abreast of changes and developments in the law, common practices, and procedures as related to all assigned areas, drawing upon expertise within the profession and with the community at large.
-Coordinate health and safety inspections and processes. Report to MDE.
-Develop operational plans which are consistent with district policy, meeting the requirements and expectations of state law, state rules, and common practices in the profession.
-Anticipate the need for change and particularly challenges relating to Health and Safety, guiding and directing others so that such needs are met on a timely basis.
-Articulate annual goals and report the progress being made on established goals and objectives to the Director of Buildings and Grounds, Director of Business Services and Superintendent.
-Lead security camera mapping and replacement cycle.

Health and safety compliance

-Development and manage the health and safety budget.
-Serve as district contact person for all questions from staff, parents, students and the public regarding health, safety, OSHA, and ADA issues in district facilities.
-Review and update health and safety programs and policies requesting board approval when required.
-Manage district evacuation planning and exit and shelter mapping.
-Maintain chemical inventory and datasheets

Budget and payroll management

-Manage district long-term facilities management (LTFM) budget including planning and mapping, check requests and budget coding. Prepare reports and share with school board and facilities committee as needed.

-Report to MDE as needed.

-Assist with Buildings and Grounds payroll and staffing functions including reviewing and approving timesheets, reviewing and approving time off, and hiring of school year and summer employees.

OTHER DUTIES

-Perform office routines and practices associated with maintaining an office, including answering and directing incoming phone calls and distributing mail.
-Perform other duties as assigned
