Position: .75 FTE School Readiness Teacher

Location: Early Education Center

Bargaining Unit: Education Minnesota Alexandria

FLSA Status: Exempt

Programs at the Early Education Center support children and parents with a healthy start to their educational journey as they prepare their minds and bodies for their experience in Kindergarten. Teachers are committed to put children’s natural curiosity to use through the exploration of problem-solving strategies, critical thinking, cause and effect relationships, pre-writing and reading skills and more complex social skills. Both indoor and outdoor environments allow for learning in all developmental domains.

Hours:
Tuesdays and Thursdays:  7:30am – 3pm
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays:  7:30am – 11:45am
(+4.75 hrs prep/week)

Essential Functions:

Deliver classroom instruction; implement lesson plans on instructional units; develop and determine methods, approaches and instructional units.
Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
Assess and evaluate student performance against lesson plans; determine the need for reinstruction or need for new approach; reinforce information previously taught in the classroom; monitor student performance and behaviors and determine how to approach behaviors.
Develop and plan instructional activities; develop and implement lesson plans personalized for individual student needs; assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs); implement student assessments and evaluate results; determine assessment process for instructional units; research topics and materials designed to improve instructional presentations.
Prepare for substitute teachers.
Communicate with parents and participate in parent/student conferences.
Collaborate with staff in evaluating individual student issues and approaches to instructional units; evaluate new teaching technologies and/or procedures. Participate in meetings (building staff meetings, departmental meetings, grade level meetings, staff development, open house/orientation) as necessary or required; attend professional development activities.

Position Summary: The Manager of Facilities, Operations, and Safety assists the district in achieving its mission, values, and goals by providing leadership, management, and oversight of district-wide facilities, custodial, maintenance, grounds, and safety operations. The Manager’s focus is on operational planning, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of facilities and safety systems to ensure clean, safe, secure, and efficient learning and working environments for students, staff, and the community. This position serves as an operational leader and change agent, ensuring compliance with Minnesota statutes and regulations while supporting effective and efficient service delivery across multiple buildings and shifts.

Position Purpose: Directs and oversees facilities, custodial, maintenance, grounds, and safety operations; establishes and monitors procedures for maintenance, repair, regulatory compliance, and risk management of district facilities, grounds, and systems; and provides leadership to ensure district facilities are safe, functional, code-compliant, and well-maintained.

Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities, maintenance, operations, or safety management with demonstrated supervisory responsibility. Thorough knowledge of Minnesota statutes, Department of Labor and Industry boiler regulations, OSHA standards, EPA requirements, and school district operational practices.

Special Requirements: Special Boiler Operator License required within six (6) months of hire upon hire in accordance with Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry requirements. Pool Operator Certification required within six (6) months of hire. Second Class Boiler Operator License required within two (2) years of hire required. First Class Boiler Operator License required within five (5) years of hire, preferred. Valid Minnesota driver’s license required.

Other Skills & Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the basic principles and methods of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, energy, asbestos and trades maintenance and repair of large buildings and related facilities; comprehensive knowledge of the policies, practices, collective bargaining methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of staff; thorough knowledge of building construction principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of maintenance work principles, practices, equipment, tools and materials; comprehensive knowledge of budgets, RFPs and bids; thorough knowledge of prescribed school board policies and procedures; thorough skill in oral and written communication; knowledgeable about current development in school technologies and facility infrastructure for technology; knowledge of project management and facilities security; thorough skills in outstanding leadership and personal characteristics; ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the school board, administrators, staff, contractors, architects, engineers, school administrators, the School Board, associates and general public.

Schedule: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM M-F // 52 weeks/year

Rate of Pay: D-6-1 // $90,189 – $129,563 depending on education and experience.

Owatonna Public Schools (OPS) has been approved to partner with MSU-Mankato to offer teacher apprenticeships for prospective teachers. Upon successful completion of the program, the Apprentice ABS teacher will earn a bachelor’s degree with a Tier 3 license to teach and an Apprentice certification.

Position Requirements: 

Eligibility requirements include being a classified employee in good standing; Associates’ degree (or 53 credits) from an accredited college/university; and acceptance to MSU-Mankato and its teacher education program. Candidates must be available to work in a full-time capacity (teacher schedule) for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years. Additionally, candidates must be able to work/attend summer courses in the summer. Bilingual skills in Spanish or Somali are highly desired to better serve our diverse student population.

Schedule:

Follows the teacher’s schedule based on the building assignment. One day per week is dedicated to classwork for the program.

Rate of Pay:

$25.00/hour
