TITLE: Behavior Analyst

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree preferred in the field of education, counseling, mental health or other related areas. Special Education endorsement or knowledge of special education processes beneficial.
Certified or possess the ability to obtain certification in the state of South Dakota prior to commencing work and/or hold/obtain appropriate licensure.
Ideally has a minimum of 3 years experience working with students with behavioral needs and /or social skills deficit preferred, with knowledge of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
Possess the ability to desire to work with children in need of special education who are challenged with social and emotional disabilities.
Pass all employment screenings.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To provide supports and provide direct services to special education case managers and designated students in need of special education as well as provide coaching, direct instruction and supports to behavior technicians, teaching assistants and other personnel working with students in need of special education.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Move from building to building, ability to carry 30-40 pounds, frequent lifting, sitting, stooping, standing, and bending. Frequent keyboarding and repetitive motion with wrists, hands and fingers.  Must be able to assist students using approved methods for holds and physically manage the de-escalation of behaviors. This work may involve sitting and standing for longer periods of time and,or being physically active throughout the day.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical assistance to district special education staff to support students with behavioral and social skills deficits in the least restrictive environment (LRE).

Serve as a resource for pre-referral processes and evaluations conducted in district.
Attend and assist in the development of student IEPs for students with behavioral and social skills needs.
Provide specific consultation to teaching staff.
Perform Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and create Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for specific students.
Provide direct services to students, addressing behavioral and social skills needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salaried position, hours are full time, benefits provided.  Position is a 9 month contract.

 

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
The performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Special Services.

Partner with the American Indian Education department and school staff to create and review curriculum resources that incorporate Indigenous perspectives.
Participate in planning and workshops that increase access to culturally relevant educational content aligned with academic standards.
Assist in creating and curating educational materials that reflect the histories, languages, treaties, and sovereignty issues of Minnesota’s Tribal Nations.
Conduct professional development workshops for educators and school administrators to equip them with effective teaching tools.
Promote awareness of contemporary issues and events impacting Minnesota’s Tribal Nations and Urban Indigenous Communities.
Contribute to curriculum development to respect and incorporate Indigenous perspectives while ensuring alignment with academic standards.
Engage in continual professional development specific to Indigenous education and language pedagogy.
Establish partnerships with local Dakota communities and elders to ensure authentic integration of cultural teachings and to provide students with real-world connections to their learning.

Position Summary:

The Kidstop Lead Instructor plays a critical role in creating a positive and supportive environment for children, youth, families, and staff. This position is responsible for on-site leadership, mentorship, and coordination of daily activities to ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive experience for all participants. Edinbrook is a hub site for our before and after school care program and supports multiple families and youth from various elementary schools.

Key Responsibilities:

Communicates with families, youth, and school district staff in an accurate, friendly, and timely manner through multiple methods.  Communication and collaboration with multiple elementary schools and transportation is essential due to being a hub site for the school year.
Informs stakeholders about program updates and deadlines to ensure seamless participation in the program.
Communicates and coordinates with several internal and external partners to ensure a quality program.
Builds respectful relationships with youth, families, community partners, and district staff.
Supports all out-of-school time activities, families, and staff (YE instructors, building supervisors, etc.) on-site to ensure a safe, secure, welcoming, and supportive environment.
Greets and engages with families and youth daily.
Works with and supports all youth in the program.
Communicates and documents accidents or incidents concerning youth or staff to appropriate supervisors or families.
Maintains confidentiality and privacy of youth and families.
Implements district, building/school, and program policies and procedures.
Creates and maintains a safe and welcoming environment that supports and serves the needs of youth and families.
Appreciates and supports the development of individual attributes in the youth served in the program.
Ensures the safety of all program participants and serves as the incident commander. Responsible for conducting drills on a regular basis with staff and students.
Provides overall daily direction of the program and work direction for other staff.
Maintains the appearance and cleanliness of program space and makes physical changes as necessary to meet the needs of participants.
Collaborates with others to organize and support field trips; reviews plans assists with groups and preparation. Attends all required Lead Instructor meetings and other meetings and field trips as needed. Assists in facilitating meetings as necessary. Meetings/Field Trips may occur outside of your scheduled work time, and adjustments to your work schedule may be required. Collaboration with your site supervisor will be necessary to accommodate these adjustments.
Provides positive and corrective feedback and alternatives as needed.
Assesses and utilizes team members’ areas of expertise to provide for optimum outcomes.
Works collaboratively with other staff and youth to plan and implement age-appropriate, fun, enriching, and hands-on experiences for youth on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age, but 21 years of age is preferred at the time of employment.
Must have an Associate degree or two years of relevant post-secondary education in Youth Work, Education, Social Work, or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred in recreation, education or related field twitch at least one year previous experience.
Minimum of 2,080 hours (approximately one year) of experience working with K-8 youth in a childcare or school-age program.
Meets Minnesota School Age Childcare Program Standards, including 120 hours of training in child development, guidance, and/or recreation coursework.
Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
Salary: VIEW SALARY GRID ON PAGE 4, SECTION 1,. OF THE KIDSTOP INSTRUCTOR AGREEEMNT RANGE IS $24.70 – $29.40

American Sign Language Interpreter

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate skilled human support work assisting deaf or hearing-impaired individuals understand what is being communicated, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Facilitate communication and access for students identified under the categorical area of Deaf/Hard of Hearing or 504 requiring interpretation in the educational environment. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Director of Student Support Services.

Essential Functions:

The ability to interpret/transliterate at a normal conversational rate in situations where students with hearing differences or parents are present utilizing American Sign Language (ASL).

Fluently and simultaneously interpret using ASL and facilitate translation of communication for the student(s), in all facets of daily classroom activities as per the Individual Education Plan or 504 plan.

Ability to use total communication with each child as it is required.

Work collaboratively with the other members of the student(s) education team to ensure full access for the student(s)

Provide instructional support by obtaining and reviewing all textbooks and supplemental materials required for classwork, developing and reviewing vocabulary lists, and providing reviews of lessons.

Provide information to the classroom teacher as to the role of the interpreter in the classroom.

Assist and monitor technology associated with student needs in the classroom.

Provide interpreting for extracurricular activities, parent meetings, and other needs as necessary for the student and support.

Restate and rephrase material presented in the classroom and in texts using the language level of the student.

Assist the teacher(s) by working on an individual or group basis with students as needed.

Develop rapport with the student without infringing on the student’s rights

Develop rapport with classroom teacher and other staff members

 

Education and Other Requirements

A BA degree from an Interpreter Training Program affiliated with an accredited educational institution or equivalent.

Current NIC Certification or minimum EIPA rating of 4.0 plus a passing grade on the EIPA written. If not yet certified, participate in the two-year provisional program with certification attained before expiration.

If certified, you should maintain your licensing following RID CEU requirements.
