The application period has launched for MREA’s Executive Director position under the guidance of Interim Executive Director Fred Nolan. MREA is seeking a motivated, visionary leader to serve as Executive Director and guide the organization’s strategic efforts in representing the voice of Greater Minnesota education and advocating for what puts learners first.

MREA is the voice for Greater Minnesota education through effective legislative advocacy and member engagement. It is a 501(c)4 nonprofit membership association.
MREA is funded primarily by annual membership dues from 237 Greater Minnesota public school districts and 90+ education-associated businesses, nonprofit organizations, and educational entities.
MREA’s 22-member Board of Directors is comprised of elected and appointed members representing geographic membership zones across the state. Directors include school district superintendents, board members, teachers, and other educational administrators, with 0 to 10+ years of experience on the MREA Board. The board meets 4-6 times per year online and in person in locations throughout Minnesota.
MREA currently has a full-time Operations Director and contracts year-round for legislative advocacy, communications and bookkeeping services and as needed for other professional services.
MREA provides exceptional value to its members as witnessed by its steady growth. The organization is committed to continued advocacy on behalf of rural education and focused on increasing member services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • State and National Representation. Advance public awareness and concern for Greater Minnesota educational issues to members as well as external constituents and audiences
  • Member Advocacy. Actively advocate for Greater Minnesota education issues, provide legislative and public testimony, and act as liaison for members’ unique legislative priorities
  • Innovative Services and Programs. Ensure MREA stability and growth through membership recruitment and retention and timely, relevant services and programs that meet member needs
  • Visionary Partnership with Board of Directors. Assist the Board in establishing policies, objectives, goals and priorities that lead to mission excellence
  • Strategic Leadership to MREA Team. Actively engage high-performing team to solve challenges, build inclusive culture, and initiate change
  • Operational Effectiveness. Monitor administrative and business controls to ensure legal compliance and minimize financial and other risks to organization
  • Key Communications. Craft and align strategic messaging to articulate organization vision, engage and inform members, and build a commitment to public rural education

Director of Human Resources

Responsibilities
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the overall administration of the District’s human resources operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Supervision of Human Resources department staff
● Serves as lead negotiator during collective bargaining
● Manages recruitment, selection processes, and accountability processes
● Ensures compliance with state and federal employment laws, rules, and regulations
● Serving as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for designated programs
● Performs additional administrative duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools

The starting annual salary is $146,323, with a competitive fringe benefit package.

Orchestra Teacher 2026-2027 School Year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum Development: Develop and implement lesson plans and a comprehensive music curriculum that aligns with educational standards, covering music theory, history, and instrumental techniques.
Ensemble Direction: Conduct and lead rehearsals for various orchestra ensembles (beginner through advanced), preparing students for school concerts, community performances, and competitions.
Student Evaluation and Feedback: Assess student progress and performance through formal and informal testing, providing constructive feedback to help them improve their skills.
Classroom Management: Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment conducive to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Instrument and Equipment Management: Maintain an organized inventory of all music and school-owned instruments, ensuring their proper care, storage, and repair as needed.
Communication and Collaboration: Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues. Collaborate with other music educators and staff to enhance the overall music program.

Under the direction of licensed special education teacher and/or related services staff, the Special Education Paraprofessional assists one or more students in accomplishing activities of daily living; instrumental activities of daily living, health related functions; redirection and intervention of behavior; and other tasks as are identified within assigned students’ IEPs. Special Education Paraprofessionals may be assigned to work with students who have special healthcare/medical needs, have behavior intervention plans or require other forms of specialized care.  Assists teachers by working with individual students or small groups, and performing related work as assigned.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Teacher and the general direction of the building Principal.
