Job Description

Position Summary:
Hiawatha Valley Education District’s (HVED) Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) and performs occupational therapy procedures and related tasks for/on students as indicated through Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Qualifications:
Current Minnesota COTA license
Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant Associate Degree program accredited by an agency recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Assists in the completion of assessment process of students using appropriate tests under the supervision of an OTR to determine students’ level of functioning and need for therapy services.
Assist OTR in the IEP process to develop goals and objectives and attend IEP and periodic review meetings.
Provide input describing students’ abilities/needs as determined or observed during treatment sessions.
Provide treatment for students qualifying for services using a variety of appropriate modalities under the direction of an OTR to improve/maintain students’ perceptual/fine motor and sensory motor performance.
Assist OTR in maintaining student files including recording, charting, or graphic data relative to students’ progress.
Attend meetings as required.
Assist OTR in maintaining safety and cleanliness of therapy space and equipment in order to provide an appropriate educational environment.
Learn and adhere to established policies and procedures of the School District and Special Education Department to ensure that School District standards are enforced.
Instruct classroom educational assistants of appropriate activities for the student(s).
Construct and adapt equipment used by therapists and students using a variety of tools and modalities to modify and make equipment to meet the needs of staff and students.
Communicate with outside service providers to coordinate services.
Other job related duties as assigned.

7-12 Secondary Instructors for VIBE Online Academy

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal online learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesDevelops and administers secondary school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a virtual classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
Teaches all required subject matter standards as assigned to the course to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the Worthington Public Schools.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school’s standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other VIBE school professional staff members, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
As part of the enrollment process:           Obtain and or assist schools in gathering all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and school regulations for students you will be teaching/mentoring.
Using the MAP meeting Outline; plan, prepare and set up a MAP meeting with family/student using instructional materials and curriculum that facilitate success in their academic career.  Develop an understanding of how the student will assimilate into Venture Upward/VIBE and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Instruct and monitor family/student in the use of learning materials and technology.
Provide appropriate feedback and communicate necessary information regularly to students and parents. (Benchmark is weekly communication.  Regularly will depend upon the specific needs of the student and or school requirements.)
Office hours posted on Venture Upward/VIBE web site and teacher will be available to field questions and concerns from families/students during those specified hours.   (Excluding Weekends)
Return phone calls, texts and answer emails no later than 24 hours of receipt
Encourage parent involvement in all aspects of online home education.
Exercise open and respectful communication with teachers/mentors, families, co-workers, and staff.
Attend virtual weekly meetings that will include TOR, staff and Leadership Team members.
Understand and be familiar with VU/VIBE policies and procedures.
Maintain hours within the workday.
Training is mandatory.  It is not optional.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License:Minnesota Teaching License as a Secondary School Teacher.
Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
EducationBachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Masters Degree preferred.
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

The amount of $9,105 annually will be available for the Administrative Dean to distribute as he/she designates among benefits (health insurance, dental insurance).  The Administrative Dean must enroll in at least single health coverage.
Term life insurance policy equal to $150,000.00, the employee may purchase additional coverage (accidental death and dismemberment or supplemental life.)
District contribution to Deferred Compensation Plan:$1500 per year (Tenured – 9 years)
$1500 per year ( 10 – 18 years)
$1500 per year (19+ years)
Long Term Disability:  district pays premium to cover 50% of employee’s salary.
Twelve (12) days of Personal Time off (PTO) are granted per year.  This includes: vacation, sick leave, bereavement, etc.
